More work with the Ruger PC 9 Carbine

More work with the Ruger PC 9 Carbine - 05/31/18 07:14 PM

I did some more velocity work today. The load was 7.2 grains of Power Pistol pushing a 90 grain Hornady XTP. Each string I shot consisted of 5 shots. Chronograph was set 10 yards from end of shooting table.

I first shot a string with the Ruger SR9 to give me a comparison base; average velocity was 1390fps
Next up was my PC 9 with an XL Linear Compensator on it; average velocity was 1790fps
Next was the PC 9 without the Compensator on it; average velocity was 1784fps

Then, just for the heck of it, I removed the compensated barrel from my carbine and replaced it with the uncompensated barrel of my son's carbine. There was no change in Point of Impact.

All my testing seems to indicate that this little rifle is a very solid platform!!

You got me motivated. I pulled out the PC40 last night, put on some rings, and am mulling scope options......

Bumping this up. Settled on the Leupold Pig Plex scope. 1.5-4x, should be good for quick acquisition of moving hogs. Hoping to get it sighted in this weekend....

Good set-up, and it ought to make life pretty miserable for the piggies in the area you hunt! What load have you cooked up for it? And be sure to share you experiences and pics with us once you've had a chance to use it.
