The start of (rookie) rifle loonie

Hey all,
Y'all recently helped me decide on my last cartridge (6.5 Creedmoor), but am wanting my next round. I've gotten the bug.

Current calibers/cartridges are

CZ 17 HMR - LH
CZ 22 LR - LH
Tikka 22-250 (1-8") - LH
Tikka 6.5 Creedmoor - LH
Tikka 300 WSM - LH

So, at least my ignorant brain thinks that I have my bases covered, so the next round will purely be for 'want'. Major preference points for a Tikka available in chosen round in LH (which I think only two of the below choices are, (at least in the stainless - which is my preference)), but...am not adverse to getting a 'true' custom...or if I have to one the Tikka Hunter rifles

223 Remington
6mm Creedmoor
6.5x55 Swede
270 WSM
7mm-08
7mm WSM
338 Federal
35 Whelen
375 Ruger (or Holland)

Now, I'm not recoil adverse, but if I can have a blast shooting my rifle at the bench, it receives bonus points. Have considered a custom in one the BR cartridges (6mm PPC, etc), but am not ready for a "true" bench rest rifle.

I'm still at the point of wanting a hunting rifle that also can be used on the bench.

I still feel like a novice most of the time but given what u have and my recent ar build, I've totally been in love with the idea of a bolt 6.5 grendel or the 6ppc u mentioned. Because off the shelf stuff in bolt formats are a little scarce, seems to justify a more custom rifle.

28 Nosler or 7-300 needs to be added to this list.

For fun at the range, I would get a 1 in 8 twist 223 Rem and have some fun. I generally bring a 223 with me when shooting larger cartridges.

No 7mm-08 because you already have a 6.5 Creedmoor. I have both, but you're building a collection. The 28 Nosler and 7-300 are high horse power cartridges when loaded with 180 to 197 gr bullets. They are good at long range anything. Or high energy delivery at not so long range.

Yes, already have a CZ 452 American in both 17 HMR and 22LR. Both rifles have a Leupold VX 2 3-9x33 Rimfire EFR CDS scope.

Gotta go with a big bore, 375 H&H, 416 Rigby or better.
Go for the classic cartridge, the Rugers are performance equivalent but not cool factor.
Since you need one right now watching for one at a gun show will yield a deal, I picked up a Ruger 77 in 458 Win for under $500 with ammo, brass and dies.

What kind of shape was the Ruger in?

The OP needs a 223. As to an 8 twist or a 9 twist, i don't think it matters too much, but that might be because i just shoot 65 and under bullet weights.

Near new, likely only been to the range a few times. I like a 458 for up close and personal with hogs. I used to use a 45/70 with hot loads but a 458 with light loads is better.

I picked up about 10 years ago a Whitworth 375 H&H for $200 on a Sunday afternoon at a show. The seller had 400 on it, I looked at it and he said make an offer. I told him I only had 200, he said he would take it as he needed to pay for the tables.. It was in good condition, a few dings from the real world.

Sorry. I call inconsistent arguement. If you're rationale for why not 7mag is 300wm based on multiple levels of similarity in performance, then how is 7mm-08 that much more superior to 6.5cm when compared to the mag equivalent comparison?

In all seriousness, I think my 6.5g bolt in custom action with high end barrel is a great suggestion.
1. It would be a great running mate with your 223.
2. From what understand it should have a pretty good barrel life based it be relatively low speed. I could be wrong but just my guess.
3. Still not too common of a set up.
4. I think it would be awesome and would like to admire.

Uh, go look. I did not recommend a 7mm-08 BECAUSE he already has a 6.5 Creedmoor. My argument is 100% consistent, unlike your reading comprehension.

I think a .35 Whelen would be a nice addition. A 225-grain Accubond at about 2700 fps is formidable!

I don't know the first thing about your background or experience, but it sounds to me like you're turning yourself into a gun collector, and not a gun shooter. You can only be so good at so many things. You've got enough rifles to cover any conceivable situation already.... why not invest in quality optics, reloading supplies/ammo, and range time?
