Something I learned about x-bolt triggers

X-bolt triggers are adjustable down to about 2 3/4 pounds, supposedly, but I never could get mine below 3 pounds. Until recently, Timney didn't make an X-bolt trigger and the JARD trigger is way too expensive. What I learned is that the trigger spring is captive. On the top end it is centered on a pin and on the bottom end the diameter is larger than the hole that holds the adjustment screw. So I got to wondering what would happen if I removed the screw entirely. I did so, and voila -- a nice 2 1/4 pound pull.

Interesting. Any idea if the abolt is the same design?

The A-bolt is a completely different design. Whether this same trick would work, I don't know. My A-bolts adjusted down to a level I was comfortable with.

Did you do the "slam fire test" several times? Drop it while cocked on its buttstock?

we don't want Browning going bankrupt cuz one of their triggers "accidentally went off and killed someone when the bolt was closed on a live round and the firing pin drops.

DONT ever lube it with a Teflon oil, only lighter fluid if anything.

Going lower by "jacking" with a factory triggers springs scares the he77 out of me. I do believe you can buy replacement springs to achieve a lighter pull weight .

OR you can nut up and buy a REAL SAFE replacement installed by a REAL gunsmith.

Good point. No, I didn't do a slam fire test. I will now you mention it. Mcarbo makes a replacement spring which I bought but couldn't get the old spring out which is how I came up with this idea.

Just a guess that the spring is there for a reason.

I really wanted to be able to get the factory trigger down on mine but just went with the new timney and all is good

Just completed the drop slam test and also worked the bolt as hard I could a number of times -- no problems.

Obviously, anyone doing this is on their own.

Just to be clear, I'm not removing the spring, I am removing the spring tension screw.

Ok I must have misread then. I removed the adjustment screw completely on mine as well and it still broke above 3 pounds consistently
