If you were wanting max distance of 300 yards what would your caliber of choice be.

#1 6.5 Grendel

#2 6.8 SPC

That is, if you're wanting the bullet to arrive with some oomph

At 300 yards those are good choices. If you want to chunk lead and be very quiet about it a 300 Blackout will do it as well. I use a custom can and an Omega can on my 7" and it's super quiet with the heavy loads. This is only if you want to go subsonic. otherwise as stated above.

You can also go 7.62x39 with the heavy rounds as well.......

My 11.3" 6.8 gets 2320fps with 120 SSTs. 300 yard kills are not a problem.

+1, both of my SBR calibers. 300 BO was fun and quiet, but I got bored with it.

I own a 300Blk and love it for 200yds and in. I know Chad has pushed it past that distance on hogs.

But I would just go with a Grendel if you often have 300yd shots.

I was recently thinking of putting something wild together. Toyed with .458, 450 bush and 50 BW but then thought, what about a .308 SBR.

Everything I read says it has better ballistics than the 6.8 out of a 16" barrel...So if you SBR a 6.8, you are losing power, if you SBR a 308 you are getting the short rifle while retaining the 6.8 power plus some extra.

Just a thought and I am by far an expert on anything in life...but I can cook a mean grilled cheese

Something to consider. My concern would be the weight. AR15 frame would be much lighter than the 10.

Yep. You gain some power but add a lot of weight. IMO the reason for an sbr is to have something lightweight and handy.

Yall are discounting the fun factor I think...

Though I cetainly would not take it on a hike and I do already have other toys; perhaps I am not the best authority.
