Umm yea... it’ll shoot. (10/22 range report)

Umm yea... it’ll shoot. (10/22 range report) - 02/17/18 01:02 AM

Took my wife’s new custom 10/22 to the range for the first time today. Link to the build page! I thought it was shooting poorly til I realized it just didn’t like Federal AutoMatch. Turns out it loves CCI Standard Velocity. Once we figured that out it shot lights out. This is the last 3 10 shot groups at 50 yards.

And honestly, these were my wife’s groups, and she’s still a pretty novice shooter. My groups were only marginally better though. I was both impressed with the rifle and proud of how well she shot.

So you can afford to put together a VERY good shooting .22 and you cant afford real targets??

JK, great job, both of you

Lol. I bought the stick on ones because they had little tiny ones. I wanted a challenge. I need to find a website to print out the little circles to test ourselves with.

It'll do much better than that. Try Wolf MT.

I bet it will. And I’ve been told it will get better after a couple hundred rounds too. We’re only about 100 rounds in. I know you are a big 10/22 guy. Do you clean your barrels often? Or just let them go til accuracy falls off?

As far as Wolf MT goes, if she decides she wants to try some bench rest competitions, I’ll give it a try, but CCI SV is $25 a brick and Wolf is $54

I clean them real good when I get them, and shoot the heck out of them. The rifle is constant, it will not change in accuracy per say, but your methods will and you will begin to single hole a ten shot group at fifty. Swing through Rhome someday and I'll hook you up with a 22lr accuracy finder package.

You need at minimum -
CCI SV
CCI Green Label
Automatch
Wolf MT
Eley
SK

One of these will show you what it'll do and then you are hooked on expensive ammo. FYI, my favorite 10/22 was a pin hole shooter before the Sparrow went on it, afterwards, I put all the expensive ammo away now shoot Automatch pin holes. The extra effective barrel length maybe, ut I hear it's very common to shoot better suppressed.

Ya know, it might be more cost effective to shoot suppressed. How many rounds of Wolf MT can you get for $600? I know I shot up several Sparrows before I knew about this.

Put a Kidd rubber bolt bumper in it and it goes pfftwhack.

Rhome ain’t that far. Maybe we can meet halfway and go shoot at quail creek one day.

you now bench rest comps are not shot for group size?

Admittedly I don’t know a lot about bench rest, and have a tendency to use it as a catch all term for accuracy competitions, but if you aren’t scored on accuracy, what do they score you on? The way I understand it is there are different rings on the target that have different point values. With the center ring being the highest. Surely a tighter group increases the likelihood that none of your shots end up outside the ring.

One shot per bull, 25 and 50 yards. X is center and it is literally like a pin hole. I did it for a long time, it was a fun game but as OCDC as I am, I quickly got bored. Your gun had to be good but the ammo was the difference. Most guys had "tuners" on the end of their barrels to match the ammo. Look at Killough Sports, he's a big supplier to the BR guys.

There are much more fun games to play for you and me, The Black Death target I posted above. I would love to get a match together using these targets. Also KYL, "Know Your Limits" YouTube it, VERY COOL.

Cast knows. I would love to put a .22 match together

I’m 100% in on a rimfire match. Me and my wife would both be in with her pink gun. If anybody has the targets and things we need, I’ve got a place to shoot, but it’s between springtown and jacksboro.

No, don’t have a rifle worth shooting. It’s be a 357 mag carbine or a savage 99 in 250 savage. I could have possibly borrowed dads custom 308, but I didn’t even sign up.

Re: Umm yea... it’ll shoot. (10/22 range report) - 02/18/18 04:40 PM

we could try and have a match somewhere easy for all. maybe the 50 yard range at Elm Fork. Depends on how many shooters. We could do the Black Death Challenge. $5.00 a target, winner takes the pot? $2.00 a target?? Bench or prone

Did you go on YouTube and look at rim fire KYL matches, Very cool.

I might be able to set us up at NTSA. I don't like public ranges. And I'll recuse myself so y'all have a chance.
