Tools for rifle building??? - 02/14/18 02:25 PM

For a long time I’ve toyed with the idea of getting into rifle building. I’m a very prcise and detail oriented type of person and I like rifles so i’m sure I’d enjoy it.

Anyway, I know you have to buy a lot of tools to do it right including a good lathe. So for those of you that build rifles, how much could I expect to spend on some quality equipment?

Depends on the type of rifles and what you consider “building”?

A guy building guns from raw materials needs a lot more than the guy sticking a new barrel and plastic stock on a REM 700.

I bought my manual mill and lathe used with a bunch of tooling for $5000 if I recall correctly. Will have about $5000-$7500 in my cnc mill once it’s complete. Have another $20k-$25k in various other machines and hand tools.

I’d guess $7500-$10k would do the rem 700 rebareller a lot of good.
