New gun fow the woods

New gun fow the woods - 02/03/18 12:09 PM

I traded off my m1a for this beauty, it's the Tavor x95. 16 inch barrel chambered in 556. Should fit the bill perfectly for walking through the woods. Any thoughts?

Viking Tactics two point sling.
1-4X, 1-6X, or 1-8X scope.
Find some heavy hunting bullets it shoots well.
Get a 10 round mag. They're short, don't get in the way like a 30 round, and you probably won't need all ten rounds anyway. Unless you're lucky enough to get a sounder of hogs pinned down in the bottom of a creek bed.

Good advice.

As much as I have always loved my Viking Tactical slings, I have discovered Magpul makes one very similar and works better in my opinion.

I like this one form Magpul. It allows a quick conversion from 2-Point to 1-Point (if you fancy a 1-Point sling, I don’t) but what I like about this over the V-Tac is the adjustment. It’s a large slider that you grab and move, either way will loosen or tighten it. The V-Tac, while still a fantastic sling, you have to grab a 3 inch long piece strap, not the easiest to do with gloves/cold hands/in a hurry.

Just my 2cents

I think that little beast screams for a good reflex or prismatic sight or something along those lines, but that's based on what I think of when you say "walking through the woods."

I have a 3X prism scope on my STG-556. Makes a light compact rifle. I have a bad astigmatism so I can't use red dots or reflex sights.

I thought the pic uploaded in the first post. I plan on getting the magpull sling, cabelas has them in the bargain cave for 42 bucks. I have a vortex red dot and a 3x magnifier on a swing mount. It's a cool little rifle. Ill keep trying to upload my pics, here's a downloaded image

Shoot these bullets and you will have as much killing power as possible from that cartridge.

What's the trigger like? Last one I tried in a bullpup was long and terrible.

The trigger in the x95 isn't bad, it has been improved from the original sar version it does have a little travel but, a crisp break. The sear is easily removed and there's plenty of upgrades available. Very quick and easy follow up shots

Being from Brazoria county myself, I can see where this would be a very handy little rifle to carry!

If you're not gonna add a silencer, consider a linear comp from Kaw Valley, your ears will thank you, especially from a bull-pup.

I'm getting that Kaw Valley suppressor, i don't like having hearing protection on in the woods. I had to get a 1/2 inch riser rail to get the scope to work, but i like it better than the red dot/magnifier. And i found the 10rd mag is a little better in handling than 30rd. This rifle is really fun to shoot at the range, can't wait to get it on some hogs in the woods in a couple of weeks.

Picked one up a couple months ago but haven’t had a lot of range time yet, Went with BlueForce gear sling, like that I can attach to QD on right of buttpad and left on hand guard, really pulls rifle tight to body when carrying. I like the 30 round mag because it’s another point of contact against my forearm helping hold steady for offhand. Trigger smoothed out after a couple hundred rounds.

I love this lil gun, my trigger broke in last trip to the range, it was like i flipped a switch and had a different trigger. I got the Magpul sling, it was on sale at cabelas.

My county neighborhood aint too bad, almost any given weekend, people around here are shooting guns on their property. Everybody knows everybody has guns so, i think it keeps everyone else in check, 11 years here and no issues, Galveston and Harris counties which border me are different stories

I installed that Kaw Valley linear suppressor, it works like described, i have only shot it at the range so far but, a noticeable difference. Going to the country this Sunday and to a buddy's house out there so I'll be able to try it out in an open field and in the piney woods. I also picked up a 900 lumen Primary Arms light and tape switch to mount on it. I'm used to hunting with a 308 that drops hogs with no issues, i am kinda worried about the smaller.223 round dropping them. I'm going to be using the 72g but that's almost 100g less than I'm used to hitting them with
