Um... Mr. Ccoker... I don’t know how to tell you this, but... um... that’s not a 6.5 Creedmoor... I’m sure it was just an oversight on your part...but...if you don’t mind... you might want to fix it... The THF hive mind doesn’t like rifles that aren’t a 6.5.

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/17/18 11:56 PM

I've been playing with some lighter weight bullets, 125 and 150 grain, in the SBR and 16" rifles. I'm really liking these. The problem with short barrels is having a lot of unburned, slow burning powder that's normally used in 308 ammo with heavier bullets. You get about 8%-15% unburned powder in an 11" barrel out of an AR platform. Even a 16" will help with that, and put more of the powder to work with the lighter bullets with a faster burning powder. It's kind of cool!

The 168 ablr looks tempting but it is a bit heavy. Need to run some numbers with 168 vs 150 bullets

I will get it rebarreled, scratch that, run it over in my truck.. it's only the right thing to do

Please, I hope you all can reach deep, and find a way (and I know it will be hard) to forgive me.

Love it!! I want one just like that, 6.5 or 223 in a Manners.

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/18/18 03:38 AM

That’s never gonna work. My Tikka 308 has a 17” barrel. Makes all the difference!

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/18/18 03:00 PM

Try to get out this weekend
It shot 178 ELDX very well in orihinal configuration after I freefloated the stock.

In the interest of testing. I am going to shoot it without bedding. The stock comes with a recoil lug installed and the action was nice and snug.

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/18/18 03:44 PM

Tikkas being a hex shaped action don't tend to need bedding.

Free floating the forearm is one of the issues I was telling you about a few days ago.

What about pillar betting? Seems like a good idea.

it already is pillar bedded from McMillan

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/19/18 05:17 PM

The Tinmey two stage is showing up today..
As much as I like the stock trigger at 2lbs I think I am going to go ahead and install it.
Will be hitting the hunting lease tonight and will sight in and shoot after tomorrow AM's hunt.

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/19/18 10:00 PM

well, I installed it, function tested it.
Works fine, just not a 2 stage guy

175 shipped

Does it act like Remington trigger now as is can be opened on safety ?

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/19/18 10:11 PM

I didn't think to check and the other trigger is back in and headed out to hunt

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/20/18 04:13 AM

Timney makes a 2 stage Tikka trigger? When did this happen?
Posted By: ccoker

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/20/18 04:56 AM

Just cane out
It is very nice

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 06:30 PM

well, crud, shot about a 4" "group" with 2 different loads.. that shot tight groups before..
swapped scope/mount, verified rail secure

need to make sure it's making solid contact with supplied (in stock) recoil lug and if it is, bedding it is next
Posted By: Buzzsaw

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 07:36 PM

it was the wind up

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 07:37 PM

Sure the barrel isn't touching the forearm?

Charles, describe the groups, as in the pattern of the groups (stringing diagonal or vertical, or just wide and open?

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 08:36 PM

shotgun
just checked, 3 sheets of paper will easily slide all the way to receiver
Posted By: Shane431

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 08:49 PM

That sucks! I hope you get it fixed ASAP!
Posted By: ccoker

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 08:58 PM

I don't think the recoil lug is making full contact.
I put some water on it and reasemmbled, took apart and the cut in the action has just a trace of water. I tried to pull it up with pliers to no avail. I am going to contact the shop manager, but to see if it is just press fit vs glued in. He's probably at SHOT though all week.
Posted By: Shane431

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 09:10 PM

I'm betting it's glued (epoxied) as that's how it is on my Manner's. But that's strange as it doesn't generally take a lot to make contact as it doesn't have a huge contact area.
Posted By: ccoker

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 09:14 PM

You have a Tikka I presume?

it's definitely not making full contact, I would expect it to basically "fully" lock in on the top and sides with the action.
Posted By: Shane431

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 09:33 PM

I have a couple. And normally you can feel it kind of "snap" into the action when it gets in the right spot. McMillan is good company and I'm sure they'll fix it. Just hope it's sooner than later!
Posted By: ccoker

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/22/18 09:58 PM

yeah, that "snap" aint happening
Posted By: ccoker

Re: Completed Tikka build! - 01/23/18 02:20 PM

McMillan services manager asked me to send in the rifle so they can check it out.

Leaving today.
