Gunsmith needed - action face truing - 01/16/18 04:03 PM
I'm looking for a gunsmith, preferably local to DFW, that can true the face of my Savage 110 action. I've ordered a new barrel which I'll install myself. Lead time is 10 weeks so I thought I'd get the action face trued. I don't need lugs lapped etc.
Any recommendations?

Thanks for the recommendations. I just got off the phone with Scott at Live Oak Accuracy, seems like a great guy. I'm going to run my action out to him next week.

I'll preface this with I'm not a Savage guy.
I think truing a Savage would be a waste of money...that is the point of the floating bolt head is to square everything up and it does so by allowing the bolt head to true itself to the chamber.
Good luck.

Thanks for the input Judd you are correct but I'm not lapping the lugs or truing the bolt up. I'm truing up the action face where it mates to the recoil lug, that can provide improvement on Savages.

It's your rifle/money, but you're wasting it on truing the action, IMO. I did it to one of my Model 12 actions years ago, and it didn't change anything with the accuracy.
I have 7 Savage actions, and the other 6 shoot as good if not better than the one that has been trued.

Spend the money on a better scope
