Interesting Toy

Interesting Toy - 12/29/17 04:43 PM

Being the family fixit guy, I get to play with lots of interesting toys that are broken, have been "fixed" by someone else before or have became disassembled, etc.

Here are some pictures of a Marlin Camp 9MM I repaired recently for my Nephew.
It would shoot but not cycle properly.
I looked on the internet and everything indicated bad buffer - yes, sometimes the internet is a wonderful thing....
Replaced the non-existent original buffer with a new red urethane one and it shoots like a dream.
I almost feel guilty shooting it to test as it has extremely low shot count but that's the spoils of the repairman - I gotta test it and make sure it works!

That's a beauty! So glad to hear that you're a real "team player" and will shoot anything you can lay your hands on! Love it!!

I have a Camp Carbine that I bought back in the 80s when they first came out. Replacing the buffer is a must, they disintegrate over time. You may also want to consider replacing the main spring with a heavier one especially if you're going to shoot hot loads. Mine is quite accurate capable of shooting sub 2" groups at 100 yds. Great truck or home defense gun.

Have fun shooting it.

Traded for a camp 45 a few years back and had to feplace the buffer pretty quick. Picked up a camp 9 earlier this year for a deal because it was locked up. Brought it home and replaced the buffer with the extra one ordered for the 45 and it shot great.

Thanks for kind comments folks.

I must confess, I've never seen or heard of one either.
Now that I've seen one, I want one!

My nephew picked it from his neighbor along with a Marlin Model 60 that's NIB.
Apparently, he bought them new and didn't shoot the 9mm until recently and the buffer was in bad shape.
He shot it 3 times and it locked back each time so he put it in the box.

Nephew was fixing fence and had his AR in the gun rack on his ATV.
They started talking about guns and the old gentleman said he had something neat he wanted to show him.
After they finished, he followed him home to check it out.
He reached in the closet and pulled them out and said the 9mm was broke and wouldn't cycle anymore.
The Model 60 still has string tags and stickers on it with all paperwork in the box.
He just wanted to sell them since the 9 didn't work.

James bought them both on the spot.

Thanks for advice on the recoil spring BigDad!

Will look at the new Ruger one for sure.
The whole time I was working on this I was thinking this is just a Ruger 10-22 in 9MM.

I have a pretty nice AR in 9MM already that would be hard to replace.
Wait, I ment to say add to, not replace - what was I thinking!
