LONG RANGE RIFLE - 12/28/17 10:53 PM

What do you think about the Remington 700 Long Range model in 30-06? I am thinking about getting one. Give me your plus/minus? Thanks

Put a break on it then a good trigger and rock on.

It's faster than a 308, yet a little slower than a 300 Win Mag, shooting the exact same bullets. Put a 190+ bullet in it, and it will do well.

I had one in 300 RUM, mine was a great rifle shot well under sub MOA with hand loads. It did get heavy though with a bipod, nightforce glass, and cheekrest to raise the comb up. I still have it but it is no longer a factory rifle anymore as I had the entire rifle rebuilt. The bad, the trigger sucks and needs to be replace as soon as possible, also bedding the stock wouldnt hurt it.

so far the only negative has been the trigger, correct?

Weight adds up fast with it also, mine empty was closer to 10 lbs then the advertised 9ish.

I've shot a 700 LR in .25-06 60 rounds, the trigger wasn't an issue for me & could be adjusted to acceptable, an after market trigger would be on a short list of things to do.
To me it had less recoil than a 'normal' .25-06, I'm sure due to weight.
The action screws were not torqued 'right' from the factory.
The barrel new from factory was more than dirty, like they put a squirt of black grease in it and mopped a few patches through it.
Cleaned, properly lubed & torqued It shot quite well, very accurate at the ranges I tried.

Owner had a timney installed and had it bedded, the final 20 rounds were boring.

If you want an inexpensive ($550ish) heavy long barrel good rifle it would be hard to beat IMO.

The cartridge is more than capable. With some tweaking, the rifle will be capable.
Give it a very consistent, tuned hand load, and it will do all you need it to do.

That is a good looking rifle.

lots of folks shoot the "boring '06" for many reasons. Dad, uncles and Grandpa purchased and hunted with them, was reason enough for me.

I'd say yes but in my defense I'm not fond of any factory triggers.

JG, what kind of tweaking may be necessary?

Trigger
Load
Bed the action
Check the free float on the barrel
Check the torque on all screws
