Suggestions on new rifle

Im thinking about getting a 300 mag. Thoughts on it/ pros and cons? Ive current got a .270,multiple 30.06 both bolt and semi-auto, a 7 mag,a two forty three, a two twenty three and a 30-30
If not a 300 mag what are some suggestions to compliment what I have now.

Sounds like you don’t need anything to compliment what you have. Between a 30-06 and a 7mag you can already do most of what a .300win mag can do.

I'd go with a .300 Weatherby instead, or a .338 Win Mag.

I say go for it. Most of the guns we buy are because it's what we want. No justification needed for that. A lot of the guys I hunt with shoot various 300's and the win mag is my favorite of them. It is a fun cartridge to load for and to shoot. There is no substitute for horsepower when you want it. My personal pick would be something along the lines of a Sendero.

Depends...I'd say with what you got--where do you want to hunt? I'd say a 33 nosler, 338 win mag-for general big game--black bear, elk, moose, even the odd full bag plains game Africa hunt. if Africa in the plans for Dangerous game a 375 of some ilk--and a 375 is very versatile .A good fast stepping 22-250, 220 swift would be a good addition too in a varmint rifle for those hunting opportunities around here.

I've always enjoyed a fast mid-bore around here...6.5-284, 257 WBY, 264 win mag...but you have a 270...and that covers a majority of that need too.

To me a 30-06 today with a the quality bullets and loads in a quality rifle covers 80% of 300 mag territory. I will tell you I've never been 300 mag fan...

300 win for shooting heavy bullets fast!. I'm running 215gr bergers at 2910. Know others who are pushing them almost 3100fps in custom guns.

Id go 300win or bigger! Love big cal guns.

It won't reach out as far as a .300 Win Mag.

When adding a new firearm to my collection, I like to stay with a caliber I already own, unless a different caliber is needed to hunt something my existing firearms don't match. It allows me to use the same ammo with different guns, when they are the same caliber of course. My last purchase was a Weatherby Vanguard .270 that I picked out because 1) It has a reputation for outstanding accuracy, 2) It would be my first Weatherby rifle, and 3) I really liked it's appearance with polished bluing and high gloss stock. Still, I recognize that many want a variety of calibers, even though it means buying and storing more ammo.

I'm at the point now where brand and type of firearm is what drives my firearm purchases. I'm also focusing on firearms that are produced in the USA, which is why a Ruger will probably be my next new gun.

Was it one of those Wal-Mart models? Those are one of the nicest looking sub-$1k firearms I've seen in a long time. Very impressed with what Weatherby did on those for the price.

Yes. Killed a very nice buck with it last season. I cleaned it, put it back in the safe and may leave it there until one of the kids gets it.

My last right handed rifle is my elk hunting rifle. It's a Remington SPS 700 in 300WM. I love this rifle and it's a tack driver but will slap the taste out of your mouth when you pull the trigger. The rifle will shoot crazy tight groups with factory 180 grain Hornady ammo. I should probably sell it since my elk hunting days are over and I don't ever shoot it anymore. Take it out of the safe and clean it from time to time but thats it!

300 Win Mag is great. If I had only one caliber to shoot, that would be it. Set it up for a 1:10" twist and run the heavy bullets, like a 212 ELD-X, 220 ELD-X, 230 Berger, etc. A 210-212 grain about 2900-2950 and a 230 grain about 2800-2850. I have shot my 300 WM out to 1 mile with the 208 A-max and 225 BTHP bullets. It's a good one.

The rifle platform (Rem 700, Tikka, etc) and set up is up to you. (Stock, bottom metal, trigger, muzzle brake, suppressed, etc). If you need help putting together a build, let me know. I have built many for rifles customers.

The 300 Win Mag is far and away my favorite caliber for hunting. Mine loves 180 grain Nosler partitions. I have killed everything from moose to a duiker with it. You will not be disappointed.

Love my 300 win mag. Had it custom built 25 years ago and it's done a great job for me. I shoot 180 NBT at 3180fps.
