Matrix Arms AR-308 Stripped Upper/Lower Receiver Set - $ 159.00 Build Video - 12/07/17 01:53 AM

Picked this up during Black Friday - good quality components however a few quirks with the build (Parts 2 and 3 of the video).

Also I'm not excited about the Rattling between the upper and lower and there is no "spacer" option behind the pistol grip to take up the play.

Let me know if you happened to pick one of these up and how your build went.

I plan to complete be rifle by next month, I will update here.

Update:

I loaded developed a 165gr Speer bullet and took the rifle hunting last month. Two totally different experiences were had.

During load development I used Pmags both 10 and 25 round varieties but only loaded with single shots or 4-5 rounds depending on if I was shooting for groups or tuning the adjustable gas block. No issues experienced and the rifle was VERY accurate.

I took these developed loads and for the first time loaded up a full 25 rounds for a night hunt. Shoot/Jam Shoot/Shoot/Jam and so on the whole night.

I’m talking ugly jams here - rounds playing twister inside the action, pigs running everywhere getting free pass after free pass.

I assumed maybe the Sprinco orange spring was too heavy and so I switched it out with an A2 stock and full rifle buffer and spring.

Tested it again with the 10 round pmag that had done so well during load development.

Shoot/Shoot/Shoot/Jam

Tried rapid fire

Same, these are all with my suppressor on the barrel by the way.

I bagged the gun and became frustrated, thought about it another week, pulled the gas block off , carbon indicates it was centered just fine, put it back.

Read elsewhere in another thread that I posted on this setup where a guy found his bolt was dragging on the top of the feed lips or cartridges in queue simulating short stroke jams.

His solution was to switch to Pmags

Well I figured I’d investigate that further and lo and behold - we got a possible serious problem with these $ 160.00 reciever sets.

I would say at this point - STEER CLEAR of these reciever sets

Not yet, waiting to shoot it first so I can be 100% sure the modification solved the jamming

I have the gun running fine now, I discovered some extra parts in the BCG which were attributing to the short stroking / stovepipe jams.

The magazine modification didn’t solve the issues I was having however there is less bolt drag because of the modification and the specs are still tighter than I’d like because I can’t insert my LaRue steel magazine in the lower with the bolt dropped whereas I can on my other non-Matrix rigs.

So now that it is running I’ll forego contacting Matrix
