Curtis Custom Axiom Action info - 08/03/17 03:42 PM

I wanted to post up some info on the new Axiom action from Curtis Custom in Alvarado, TX. This action is the brainchild of Chase Curtis and Joel Russo and it's not your standard Remington clone. I've been running one for a couple of months now and there is a lot to like here. From the website...

•Receiver machined from one piece of 416 stainless steel
•DLC (diamond like coating) coated bolt.
•Available in ADL, BDL (LA Extended), single shot and AI configurations
•Includes screwed and pinned on 1913 accessory rail standard at 20 MOA. 0, 10, 30, 40 MOA available as special order
•Includes double pinned recoil lug
•Side bolt release
•Rollerball tipped cocking piece to reduce drag
•Fire control system “tuned” by Greg Tannel
•Available in short and long actions
•Right and left hand configurations available
•M16 extractor
•.750” bolt diameter
•Spiral fluted bolt
•Bolt faces available in .473” (.308) and .540″ (magnum)

This is a Remington footprint and 3 lug design with 60* bolt through. 3 lugs, 3 raceways. There is normally a concern with heavy bolt lift with any 3 lug/60* action because you are cocking the spring in less bolt lift travel, but let me tell you that is not the case here. The bolt lift is really smooth due to the roller ball cocking piece and I would equate the bolt lift very similar to a well broken in 700. It's light and smooth. Another thing I like is the side bolt release/bolt stop. While these are standard fair on most custom actions, this one is quite beefy and set up in a way that the force of cycling the bolt is not absorbed by a roll pin, but the bolt release itself. Its hard to explain, but its a solid design.

I've made up some videos that show one finger bolt lift operation and some shooting. These are a great value at $925. I have the full DLC treated action. I did get out to a two man team sniper match a few weeks ago and the action ran perfectly and my partner and I did quite well. Anyway, I just wanted to make a post about these for those that may not be aware of these. These are really nice actions for sure.

Well Chad has it hostage, and doesn't want to give it up. Here's a quote from text I replied to him with:

"MFer, If We get into a gunfight, we both gonna be some shot up sumbitches!"

I could see that lol. This looks like an action I need in my life. I made a secrete savings account this afternoon at the bank. Going to be a minute but I think this is what I will build a gun on.

I still, and always will, say they shoot.

But after thousands of rounds, and wearing out multiple ejector springs, and witnessing thousands of double strokes, I've drives their actions are crap.

Rifles that shoot well, but cycle poorly.

Of course Curtis Customs is better, but at twice the price. Tikka is bang for buck. I've got 2 and Tony is about to rebarrel a third, and fourth.

I like the Curtis action, but also like having the Savage threading, so I bought a LH Shilen DGR action for my new build.
I wanted the ARC Mausingfield action, but just couldn't see spending $600 more for it.
