Tightened up groups with new approach

I stabilized my very slightly wiggly shooting bench. I built it on wheels, so I could move it around, but the wheels allowed some wiggle. So finally the wheels are gone. It made a noticeable improvement in reduced horizontal dispersion. I really didn't think it would make that much difference, but I guess I'm the dummy that put wheels on it in the first place. Well, I finally got it right. Shot some nice groups this morning.

Very nice! Yes, a solid shooting rest is kind of important. I used to shoot out of the truck bed of my truck at our deer lease for some long range shooting to get taller than the high vegetation. I quickly realized that there is a lot of movement in the scope out of the back of a truck bed.

Very true! And also the reason I found a large grain of salt for the minuscule group somebody was claiming to have shot out of a truck bed.

I have been thinking of yote hunting at night and sitting in the bed of my truck?

It's good enough for hunting out of, which I have done multiple times. But for precision shooting at long ranges, the scope movement was a lot, and the wind wasn't that bad. I a bad wind day, it's impossible.

Go for it. Myself and a friend (before wife and kids) would hunt out of the back of the truck. He ran the light, I ran the rifle. Did lots of coyote killing that way.

There was a time all my hunting was from either the bed or cab of a pickup at night, but that was all jackrabbits, coyotes, and skunks and such. As long as everyone knows to knock off the fidgetting and the driver goes ahead and kills the engine for long shots, good hunting accuracy is achievable. Gotta have a good spotlight operator too. I miss doing that!

All you need for 'yotes, pigs, etc. is minute of pie-pan accuracy.
