.260 Rem Gas Gun Recommendation

.260 Rem Gas Gun Recommendation - 12/27/16 12:30 AM

I am considering a .260rem gas gun. Any recommendations on manufacturers to look at?

Purpose will be primarily to shoot out to 1000 yards at steel. Aero precision makes a 6.5cm upper that gets decent reviews. Any first hand knowledge?

LaRue is taking preorders for their gun in 260. When it comes to AR's I like to build them myself. Buy yourself a AR10 lower, stripped upper receiver, handguards, etc and get the best barrel you can afford. Even if you have to buy all the assembly tools you'll still likely save money.

Do you reload? I wouldn't get a 260 unless you reload.

Otherwise save yourself a bunch of money and get a 6.5 bolt gun. Factory 6.5 ammo is fairly affordable and there are more options than factory 260.

With a gas gun do not overlook the 6.5 Creedmoor. Due to mag length limits the Creedmoor in my opinion is a better choice than a long deeply seated seated high bc bullet from a 260. OAL on a 260 gas gun can be a limiting factor. As far as choice AERO is as good as any other.

Or at least JP parts, their +2 gas tube is right on the money for a CM

I've been torn between a .260 gasser and a 6.5cm bolt gun. Problem is I only have the money for one of them.

I do reload, but don't mind buying good factory ammo. Recommendations on a bolt action in 6.5? I've looked heavily at the Ruger Precision, but it is a unicorn.

The bolt gun will inherently be more accurate but its honestly what you really want to buy. Why not buy and RPR and get another barrel spun up? You could have a 308, easiest rpr to find and put a CM barrel on it and have both or a 260 barrel, which ever your prefer.

My brother has a fairly high end gas gun in 6.5cm and it shot better than my savage 308 bolt gun. He merely collected parts and had a gunsmith assemble it proper for him; mega arms billet set, prs stock, gissiele trigger, aero bcg and Krieger barrel. He even sent Krieger his bolt and they matched a barrel to check proper head spacing.

I thought his rifle turned out great and saved him money versus an equivalent from somewhere like GAP rifles.

Thanks for all the help and opinions. I'm still not sure which route I will go but have more to research now.

Anyone shooting a Savage a stealth. Seeing some decent reviews on it and they seem to be priced affordably.

Andrew Brady with Lone Star Armory.

I've seen the long range performance of two rifles he built in 6.5 CM and it was impressive to say the least. Contact Tye here on the forum. He has been shooting one of Andrew's rifles for a while now and can answer a lot of questions as to it's performance.

I have an Armalite AR-10 in 260 and LOVE it. I load mainly Barnes 120 TTSX, however just loaded and tested Hornady 143GR ELD-X bullets and I'm very impressed. I have no experience with the Creedmoor, but have only heard GREAT things about it.
