Shotgun for wife

Shotgun for wife - 11/17/16 08:05 PM

Going to get the wife a new shotgun for Christmas, her only requests are semi auto and 20 gauge. She was shooting my Beretta 391 Extrema and liked it, but after a few rounds of hunting with it she said it was wearing her out. I'm tempted to get her one with the kick-off system but I don't know if that's the best option out there.

Winchester sx3 for soft shooting.

My daughter is 5'7" and shoots a SA-08 Compact 20 gauge and a SX-3 Compact 12 gauge. She uses the Winchester for duck/geese and the Weatherby for everything else. Most women need a higher comb and shorter LOP.

There are a number of different compact shotguns being marketed today. If possible I'd have her shoulder as many as possible and then choose.

Remington 1100 LT-20 are nice little guns with very little kick.

Take a look at the Weatherby SA08. They work flawlessly are light and easy for a woman to shoot.
And very affordable.

I agree with ^^^^ if you stick with the 12ga.

If she likes your 391 Beretta you could find one of those in a 20ga too. If I was you I'd buy her a 28ga Benelli or Beretta and use it when she doesn't wink. I want one so bad I can't stand it but I've yet to find exactly what I want but I've not looked real hard. Seems like there is always somewhere else to spend 1k.

Agree wholeheartedly on the 28. You'll pay more for shells but your wife will love it. Benelux and Beretta are tops but I wouldn't rule out Weatherby or Franchi. P_102

I know nothing about a 28 gauge. Please educate me, other than it is smaller than a 12/16/20 but bigger than a 410.

It is light recoil but every bit of lethal as a 20. It's just slap fun to shoot. The only negative is what P102 said...the shells are just slightly more expensive. I would almost guarantee she'd shoot as long as you want to with your 12 if she had a 28.

This. I switched from 20 to 28 gauge and couldn't be happier. There is zero recoil, and I've been able to consistently hit more clays.

Is the 28 any good for ducks?

If you shoot them feet down in the decoys it is more than adequate.

I'd get her a 28ga...there's really not much difference in most shotguns between 12 and 20. Just a thought.

I shoot a Yildiz A71. Cheap and does the job very well. From my understanding, Tristar, Yildiz, and Weatherby shotguns are all made in Turkey and basically the same gun.

Getting it fitted for her will really help. Daughter loves her Beretta.

Going to Gander Mountain today to feel some shottys. Prob won't buy from them but they typically have the best selection around here

My son shoots a compact Weatherby SA-08 20 GA. He's 10. Not too much recoil for him and has been 100% reliable after about 3 or 4 cases thru it.
