7x57 Mauser rifle - 11/11/16 11:30 PM

Does anyone know who makes a bolt in 7x57 today?

Good luck. K-Var did have Zastava M-70 in 7x57 but they are no longer on the website. Also Winchester cataloged the M70 Featherweight in 7x57 for a while but the only place I see new ones are Buds in the Super Grade. I've handled one of these, they are pretty nice.

Not sure why you can still get rifles in 6.5x55 Swede, but nobody makes a 7x57 anymore.

It doesn't have the cool heritage that the 7x57 does, but the 7mm08 can be found and the ballistics are extremely close.

Not cheap but Cooper, Nosler and Montana Rifle Company with the latter being the most economical.

Would not hesitate to purchase any of those rifles

Of course you could go custom if you really want one.

I have one I might be willing to part with. Mauser action, McMillan stock. Douglas barrel, Nikon VX3 six power fixed. Shoots like a dream. It's a rifle I inherited from my father in law. It's heavier than I like. Shoot me a PM.if you're interested. I also have dies, brass, and reloads. It loves 140 SGHP. The last time I shot it two hogs lined up for me at the back porch feeder. Neither one are still with us.

And check gunbroker for Winchester Model 70.

They made a special run Supergrade 7x57 a couple of years ago.

I use a Montana Rifle Company and really like it. The MRC's are very accurate, especially after 60 or so rounds down the barrel.

A pawn shop in Granbury has a Ruger M77 in 7x57 that looks likes a new one. This probably doesn't answer your question but it's a dang nice rifle.

I own one of the supergrades and love it. Relatively light and it has a quality feel to it all around since they did not skimp on most of the materials. I think the satin black accents throughout the rifle really set it off as well. It's really my favorite rifle in my arsenal by far and from what the people at Winchester told me there were only 150 of them made since they were a SHOT show special that had to be ordered at the show and paid for in full pre-production.

I also have the featherweight M70 that they made the year prior and I believe the shop that bought mine for me purchased a second one and still has it on their shelf if you're interested. There was less than 400 of those produced and they are also really nice rifles, just not quite as detail oriented as the supergrade is. (No satin black accents, plastic cap instead of steel on the pistol grip, etc.)

If I was to go with something else, it would probably be a NULA. Montana also makes some nice rifles in the caliber that would fit the bill unless you have to have a wood stock. Others to keep an eye out for would be the R700 mountain rifle (rare) or the winchester M70 fwt XTR (push-feed), which were both made in the 70-80's and are really nice as well. The XTRs can be found for around $500 for a nice one.

I've probably posted this before, but you can get a side-by-side comparison of the two and see the differences. If you can find either one of these new, I would jump all over it in a heartbeat. Well worth the money, IMO. Top one wears a Trijicon 3-9x40 w/ Mil-Dot and the bottom is a Zeiss Conquest 4x32 (discontinued). Both will shoot MOA with me behind them and would probably perform better with someone else since I'm pretty bad with my shakey hands.

Another that shows up from time to time used is the Ruger M77 tang safety, the made it in a few different configurations including the full stocked one. Mine is a Ruger #1 international made for the Dallas Arms Collector Association, run of 500 marked 275 Rigby.

CZ made one in their 550 rifles for a couple of years. Really good shooting gun with 2 stage trigger.

I own one very accurate with a acc style trigger.
I would try gun broker for a new one.

I looked at a new Ruger #1 7x57 at a recent gun show. The price was $900 which was too steep for me a that time. I think now it would have been an excellent buy.

Re: 7x57 Mauser rifle - 11/12/16 02:05 PM

This gun is for the wife. She has a AI version but the stock is just too long when hunting with cold weather gear on and I am not going to cut the stock down. I have a MAC ASR IN 300wm. they are heavy, I visited their plant about a week ago. Every thing they make is built for a 20 yo. gorilla to tote while hunting. I like them but just too heavy for a 71 yo to hunt with.

Thanks, watchale.

DLALLDER, I would look at NULA if you want something extra light and they can probably make it to your specific length of pull. If I were to ever need a seriously light rifle I'd probably go with their model 20 or 24. They're kind of pricey, but I've always heard really good things about them and you can't make them much lighter than that.

Re: 7x57 Mauser rifle - 11/12/16 09:07 PM

My Cz550 has better wood than the super grade Winchesters that were next to it.
The action is a improved 98 Mauser, the barrel was hand lapped by cz and shoot s
A .564 inch group with 120 grain ballistic tip.
Every gun comes a test target. At the time I bought it they were doing well in stock class rifle matches.

You can get both Winchesters and Rugers on Gunbroker

Re: 7x57 Mauser rifle - 11/14/16 07:05 PM

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a few 7x57's but none that are teenage girl size. Something worth looking at I believe is taking my Ruger 77 MK II and getting a Boyd's stock with shorter LOP. Might be a good option for the rifle your wife is already shooting. That or finding a decent used 7x57 and then getting a new stock.

My first year of production Winchester Mod. 70 featherweight 7X57, Leopold 2X7 VXII. Bought it at a gunshop in New Braunfels, now out of business. Probably killed 8-9 whitetails with this rifle, all DRT.

J&g sales has military surplus Spanish Mauser's in 7mm Mauser for $179. If you feel like building one. I got one in 7.62 NATO and its pretty cool.

The checkering really pops. Very nice.

Re: 7x57 Mauser rifle - 11/17/16 07:01 PM

For me it would be seriously cool to find an older rifle with .275 Rigby stamped on the barrel. If I were to purchase a new custom or semi-custom I'd try to get the rifle stamped .275 Rigby.

Re: 7x57 Mauser rifle - 11/17/16 10:43 PM

.275 Rigby is the most popular bespoke rifle chambering out there according to some sources.

X2 on it being cool to own something stamped with it. Soon maybe!

I think the current rifles manufactured under the Mauser name come in 7x57 but I'm not sure. They come in 7x64 Brenneke so I would think they would come in 7x57.
