Fluke or problem indicator?
If problem is it the Glock or the Hornady?
Each "issue" happened just once.

Glock 19 Gen 4 (9mm) with Hornady Critical Defense

1. Last month at range, 5 shots, slide didn't catch open after last shot.

2. Last weekend, shooting 5-round clips, had a misfeed after 1st shot on 3d or 4th clip. Round jammed hard, likely would've been a fatal problem if in self-defense situation.

FWIW, also shooting Glock 17 Gen 4, never a problem.

Sounds like a mag issue. Mag spring might not be strong enough to hold the follower up to hold slide back. Could also cause feeding issues. Do you know if it was same mag with each failure.

Not real familiar with Glocks, but is it possible the magazine latch is worn, causing poor magazine-to-breech relationship which might cause both failures?

make sure support hand thumb is away from slide catch. I have this issue with every pistol I shoot

Make sure you aren't limp wristing. Glocks need a good string hold in order to recoil and operate the slide correctly.

I don't see the ammo being an issue, as that is top quality defense ammo. How new is the gun? May need to run some ball ammo through it for a few hundred rounds to get everything smoothed out.

You need to run about 50-200 rounds of ammo through it to break the gun in. My last new Glock that I shot had a hick up on the second or third round, and never a problem after that. Break it in with a practice round, unless you have deep pockets to shoot the high end ammo.

Also, Glocks don't have clips, they have magazines.

You could be riding the slide release.

While I agree that Hornady is top shelf stuff, I have heard some complaints with the critical defense being light loaded sometimes and not having the oomph to cycle some guns...

FWIW, I have Federal HST's and Hornady Critical Duty loaded in my 19...
