25 wssm - 08/08/16 08:31 PM

Had a customer come in and ask if I had or knew anyone that shot this round. He is basically looking for ammo for it. Does anyone here reload or have any rounds they want to get rid of?

Winchester just made a run of this ammo in the last couple of months. Most of the inventory dried up QUICK though. Prices were were as low as $37 but mostly around $50-$60 per box. Right now it can be had still in the $50-$60 range online from some of the resellers. At the first of the year it was over $100 per box and I look for it to get back to that level pretty soon now that the retail inventory has all but vanished.

Wow, you're right! When I looked a couple of hours ago, the 120gr PEP was still listed as available.

LOL. That's how quick its been disappearing. The PEP is the load they just made too.

Wow, what's the deal? Is it an outdated caliber?

Re: 25 wssm - 08/09/16 01:54 AM

Don't know if outdated is the right term. It was just not a success commercially. I have two of them and love them, but I long ago stocked up on brass and ammo.

All of the Super Short Mags, the 223WSSM, 243WSSM,. and 25WSSM, were introduced shortly before Winchester closed its New Haven manufacturing plant in 2006. No M70s were made until 2008 at the new plant in South Carolina, By that time the WSSMs were pretty much dead commercially.

Also there is/was the argument that they did nothing that existing cartridges wouldn't do.

Both Winchester and Remington of let the owners of the their less popular proprietary cartridge swing in the wind. To my mind their behavior has shown a complete indifference to the most valuable fans of their products: the ones who will take a chance on something new because they like the company.

I had picked up a couple hundred rounds online at Cabella's a while back for my son who has one. His granddad is setup to reload for him but we are trying to obtain a good stock of rounds/brass.
