Hey, did you get into my safe to take a picture of my gun? Lol

I have one that looks just like the one in the pic and it is a fun little gun. Had it built by a guy who used to be on here but I don't think he is here anymore. Anyway, it is a great little gun and fun to shoot.

I've had plenty of SAR1 and SAR3 rifles. All good guns. Like many Century AK's you will want to make sure your front sight base isn't canted but other than that they are good guns.

What are these going for these days? Not sure what to offer the seller. Don't want to low ball him but don't want to pay more than it's worth.

IMO they are much better than a WASR so would be priced accordingly. That said, any decent AK these days in the $450-500 range is a good buy. I'd offer in that ballpark.

Haven't came across a decent AK for under $500 in a good while. Most I've seen are at least $600 and up. I'll let you fellas know how it turns out. Thanks.

You asked what would be a fair price to offer, which would be $450-500. At that price both parties would probably be happy and as indicated would be a good deal. I've never paid more than $400-450 for a SAR 1,2 or 3 personally. If you want to pay him top dollar then by all means offer $600-650. Personally, if you are looking to be in the $600-$700 range I'd forgo the SAR and get either a OPAP or Mak 90.

don't offer 4-500. That's insulting with today's prices. $600-$650 would be fair. $400?? Maybe 9 years ago...
I too would rather have a mak or other AK'S but nothing wrong with a sar

Do these rifles have the same action as the Romanian 7.62x54 PSL's ?

You have to look and be patient Colt. I passed on one NIB in the past month for $600 and purchased another that has been partially converted (all Chinese pre-ban matching wood - except for pistol grip, need to get that still) for $600 just last week. I won't pay pre-ban prices for a post ban gun. In fact, within the past few months I have paid $1100 for preban Norinco's so can't justify paying prices some ask for Mak's....you just have to be patient and be ready to pounce.

From the sense that they are all Kalishnikov's design, yes. But the SAR series is based on the AKM variant (7.62x39, .223, and 5.45mm) where as the PSL is closer to the 7.62x54 Dragunov. The gun pictured is essentially a semi auto Romanian G variant.

Re: Romanian SAR 1 AK47 - 05/22/16 07:07 PM

I disagree. The OP's question was what he should offer, not what is the full retail price that I could expect to pay on GunBroker. When you make an offer you do so at a value that works for both parties. I'm sorry but a Romy G is in no way as good a gun as a Mak 90 or OPAP both of which can be had in the $600-650 range. So if I were to buy one it would be with that in mind. This is what I bought for $600 last week. No, it doesn't have all the evil features of the SAR1, but it's a better AK than the Romy G parts gun can ever dream of being. I say that to explain why I give the price I did. If he wants to pay $600-650 for a SAR1 that's the OP's business. But don't say that someone that won't pay that price because there are better rifles to buy in that price range than a SAR are insulting. Maybe I'll just keep my opinions to myself and jack my prices up $100-200 when I sell here smile

Earl, since you are so smart and obviously know the values so well. . Please list one of your AK'S at $400 ... sks values.. you are a joke...
the year is 2016, we are no longer living in the 80's... a Coke now cost almost $2.00...

I will buy every AK you have at $400.. get a life. You can barely buy a m&p shield at $400 but good Ole Earl believes you can buy AK'S at $400.. I want some of the weed you are smoking

Bet you can find a psl for $600 and an AR for $400 too.. oh, sks must still be only $200 too...

CRAZY...

PiePuncher...the last AK I listed on here was not a SAR 1. It was a OPAP which was sold for $700. Considering the fact that it had a $100 Yugo M76 buttstock on it, I do think that it was priced fairly...no it wasn't $450 - but it wasn't a SAR either.

And yes, I've been buying and selling AK's for over 35 years so I do know a little about them:

Texas Hunting Forums OPAP1

Prior to that I did sell one (also with another M76 buttstock, I personally like the sight picture and check weld of the M76 buttstock over the M70) for $650 on this same site:

Texas Hunting Forum OPAP 2

OPAP's are at the lower end of AK's that I will personally own and sell. I will not own a WASR and it's been years since I've owned a SAR. They are good AK's - but I've stated what they are worth to me, I'd rather own an OPAP. You are free to buy all of the WASR's and SAR's you want for $600-650, have at it my friend.

Oh and I can't help you on the PSL and SKS, but you can get within $50 of your $400 price for an AR at Palmetto State. It's a little more ($490) for one at AIM.
