Another run on guns and ammo

Another run on guns and ammo - 04/10/16 08:22 PM

Was at the gun store today and the owner says it is begining to get hard to keep stuff on the shelves again. I guess, as it looks more and more likely that Hillary is gonna be our illustrious potentate bang , folks are gonna start panic buying again. I'm pretty sure I'm good to go on calibers that I shoot, might pick up a little more .22lr though.

Other than 22 ammo and concealable pistols there are not any real shortages.
22 is getting a lot better but the compact pistol business is hot and they are getting behind.

Sheep are gonna stampede, they do every time.

Hopefully many here have paid attention and prepared for it. I refuse to be part of the mass panic of the unprepared.

Have your house in order. That way you don't contribute to "The Stupid" when it occurs. cheers

Re: Another run on guns and ammo - 04/11/16 01:13 AM

I'm not seeing any ammo shortage at all around here. Some specific loads are hard to find but its been that way for years now. As far as caliber goes I can find just about anything main stream any day of the week.

My opinion........it was a sales pitch to get inventory moving. Most people don't prepare this far in advance. History tells us that for sure.

Me thinks he tried to make a sale.

I like that. I'm going to steal that line.
After coming back from an overseas work trip in the spring of 2009, i was never going to get caught up in all this bs any more. I have consistently bought ammo whenever that particular thing was cheap knowing I;m the kind of person who always shoots it eventually. My stock has gone up and down over the years but luckily it's been cheap the last couple so I can pretty much weather anything these days.

I still haven't found a 458 Socom upper on sale recently. There must be a shortage.

I was at multiple Academy stores and Cabela's and there was no shortage of ammo.

Yep, we've seen it before and we will see it again - and again.
Same thing applies to food, water and basic supplies. We've all seen the shelves quickly get stripped when a storm is coming. Posting about it online will not change that.

The panic comes from a lack of basic planning, resulting in the "the sky is falling" reaction.

Yep. I blame this on the Kel-Tec PMR30. Seems like 22 mag wasn't all that popular until the Kel-Tec came out. I had only fired 2 guns in 22 mag (lever action, revolver) prior to the PMR30.

Re: Another run on guns and ammo - 04/12/16 06:50 PM

It's a load of manure that .22 mag costs as much as .223 ammo.

Re: Another run on guns and ammo - 04/12/16 08:26 PM

Ain't that the truth. At the Market Hall gunshow this past weekend there was one ole boy (not a dealer) that had .22 Mag on his table. He had a bulk box (200rds) of CCI Maxi Mags "Chootem"s for $45 and a brick of Armscorp for $175. Yeah you read that right. I scratched my head and told him to give me the CCI's..

Do you honestly think that people talking about this is what causes it? If people wouldn't discuss it, it won't happen? Really?

I will respectfully disagree.

A total lack of planning is what causes panics - not people reminding others that a storm may be on the horizon.

I hadn't checked on this thread in awhile. It seems to have turned ugly really fast. I was just making a comment on what I experienced that day. I find it flattering that you think enogh people would think so highly of my post that it would cause a wide spread panic. rolleyes
If you have your business taken care of, then anything that occurs won't affect you. You might even be able to sell some stuff for a profit. Relax.

I may buy a budget model just to sit on and after people panic and supply dries up put it for sale. If it doesn't sell than I still have an expensive toy I can play with and upgrade if desired.

Re: Another run on guns and ammo - 04/13/16 10:39 AM

Now to get someone to buy the same dollar amount in ammo and then put it up for sale.

That does it... This evening I'm going to buy two jugs of Jack Black instead of just one.

If you buy enough at one time then you can figure the savings on mileage at $0.55/mile will get you free "jug". Then keep the free jug and return the other jugs and you have a free jug that didn't cost you anything. All of our politicians and their supporters agree with this thinking so I can not claim it as an original.

Plenty is mighty big word in some areas smile

Local Walmart has been stocked full of CCI Maxi Mag this week, along with .22lr in CCI Stinger, Min Mag, Quiet, and Winchester X. But, I never stop looking for a deal!

Re: Another run on guns and ammo - 04/14/16 02:04 AM
