AR-10, LR 308 shooters, which type mags do you use the most?

Working on an idea with East.

Do you use P-mags, or steel mags more? If you were going on a hot hunt with it, would you have a spare or spares of 20 round, or 10 round?

I will be using Pmags and prob carry an extra 10 rounds with me, 20's are too big and bulky

Pmags and 10 rd. 10 rounders protrude less and slightly lighter, depending on situation 2 or 3 extra as needed. Do the same with my 6.5CM gas gun.

I don't have a preference when hunting. I just grab a mag out of my bag and go. I usually bring a few spare mags with me and they are usually 25 round P-mag. I currently have a 20 round dpms mag loaded for next trip.

But twenties mean 10 more hogs shot before a Mag change.

Filled up they are pretty heavy, though. I think with the adrenaline flowing it won't really matter.

Can anyone really get more than 10 shots off accurately?

Especially someone that has serious demons with ARs?

I like 10 round pmags for the smaller foot print and weight.

I use Stoner 10 rd steel mags mostly, but have a case of 20 rd P mags.

Is weight really an issue? I guess if I was 60+ years old, weight might be an issue. When scouting/stalking or just walking the ranch, I carry single point sling and I can't tell the difference in 25 round mag or 10. If shooting is a problem with the extra 10-15 rounds, get to the gym.

For multiple hogs on one sit, I prefer something manually operated.
I've found 3 rounds is sufficient.

I prefer to have a 10 round mag especially for spot and stalk then keep an extra 10 round mag in my back left pocket for easy access and for quick mag changes.

Out of curiosity, what type hunting are most of y'all using your AR 308 for? I'm debating getting 1, but thinking the wight for spot n stalk might be a bit much. Not trying to derail your thread.

This is what I'm looking at it for. I have a 6.8 now. Do y'all find the weight on the AR 308's to be an issue for spot n stalk situations?

10 round Pmags if I have to be serious.

In my 6.8 I use 10s on MLD hunts, but I have 10 and 25 round backup mags. If I knew a hog sounder was coming in I'd probably have the 25 in first.

Not at all my MK3 CBR is only around 8 1/2 pounds with 1-4x scope on it.

I use 10, 20, 25 rd Pmags. Also have 20 rd Larue mags that are really nice but $79 each. All function & cycle the same so I typically grab Pmags since they are lighter weight and I wont be too upset if I lose one.

LR .308 Recon is less than a ten pound rifle. My scopes add quite a bit of weight. Offhand or supported, the rifle is doing a good job for me. Last weekend, talking to Judd at the range, I opened the driver door with the truck running and said "I want to try something". Rested the rifle on the window ledge and pinged the 500 yard steel, standing, right handed shot. Judd- "I hate you"

My newly acquired CMMG MK3 weighs 7.6 pounds without magazine or optics. I'm guessing 10lbs once it's ready to hunt, making for a very easy walking rifle

I went in search of a double Mag holder to go on my belt. No dice, found Blackhawk single Mag holder, and did get a couple. I had an idea for one Mag holder to stack two mags. So one close to your body, and one layered next to it. That's how I carry two 10 round A.I. mags while shooting matches.

Get east to make you a super awesome cnc molded mag carrier for it and yea it's already beer thirty

Mine is a 7mm-08, but bigger game and target shooting.

I never worry too much about needing to change mags when hunting hogs,I usually only kill what I'm going to eat. If we are taking out a sounder of hogs,we just bait them,and 1 shot into 7-10 pounds of tannerite does the trick. Plus,it leaves a big hole in the ground to bury them in.

Doesn't work that way in my A.O. Keep the rifle ready when driving the county roads, go out and actually hunt, and you may catch a 20 head sounder on open ground. I'm going to kill every one I possibly can. Last time that happened I had a ten round mag in, and had to do a mag change in the middle of the shooting.
