Are pawn shops okay to do an inbound FFL transfer? - 02/26/16 12:24 PM
Hello all. Been a while since I posted. My primary gun shop charges 35 bucks to do a transfer, but I know they do it right, and they have this fancy computer system, where I can type in all of my info. Now there's a couple pawn shops that will do an inbound transfer for 15 bucks. The guys at these shops don't really seem to have an interest in guns, and some just seem a little on the unprofessional side. I know it's not rocket science, but ts gotta be crossed and what not. Anyone have experience or advice about this?
Thanks all,

Lewisville pawn shop does $10 transfers. Out of your woods but they have done a few for me. They do a lot of them.

As long as you fill out the Form 4473, present them with valid picture ID, the pawn shop folks call and do a NICS check and get a valid "Proceed" reply and NTN number, there should not be any problem.

No problems at all. I use Plano Pawn and they do a fine job.

I use Empire Pawn in Lubbock, $20, and both transactions have been smooth. Would have been three but they are a gun dealer as well, and got me a good price on an M&P9 so I bought from them.

I've used Plano Pawn more times that I care to admit (especially to my wife) and there has never been an issue.

I'm curious, what do you think that the gun shop will do so that it is done right, but apparently the pawn shop won't do? And let's say that the pawn shop doesn't do the paperwork correctly... how is that your issue?

Inbound transfer,
Shop receives gun from UPS and logs it in their required FFL log system.
Contacts transferee
Does normal gun sales checks same as them selling the gun
Logs "sale" outbound portion of the log book.
If their log books are not inline that is between them and the ATF

Thinking about it now, I guess there's not much that can go wrong. I was thinking about how strict everyone is about filling out the form, but if they give NICS the correct info, the transfer goes through. The problem would be with their books. I appreciate the responses.

Make the short drive up to Sherman, turn east off Hwy 75 at TMC hospital on FM 691, about 1 1/2 miles to Texoma Parkway where 691 dead ends. Turn right into the parking lot of Best Pawn on the SW corner...and the largest gunshop in Grayson County. Ask for the tall blonde headed owner Cliff Montgomery, and tell him you'd like to use his shop to receive your on line gun orders...he'll charge you $20 + tax, or about $21.65 as I recall...and he's already listed with every major on line gun merchant I know of, and have used him for years for my Gun Broker purchases too. Just sayin' its a easy peasy deal working with Cliff and his guys.

Only FFLs I've used have been pawn shops just because they happen to be close and cheap. Almost as easy as having it delivered to my door.....almost.
It's a generic transfer...nothing to worry about.

They either do it or they don't. No one really does it better than anyone else. It's just paper work.

X3 on Plano Pawn, quick and no issues in the past, if I recall believe it was a $25 fee. Using Atwell Tactical in Richardson on my current inbound, so far vert good and timely communications with them and they are close to me.
