Steel target size

I am going to set up a few steel targets and I'm a needing some info as to what size diameter you would recommend. I will be building these myself and don't want to waste material. The targets will be scattered from 100 to 1000 yards maybe further.

I have 2 MOA and 1 MOA every hundred from 200 to 800 yards. 100 yard berm is for paper only. I also have 2/3 IPSC silhouettes at 200, 300, and 400 yards for new shooters shooting positional.

2 MOA are challenging, and good to get DOPE on. 1 MOA will test man and machine. They hurt everyone's feelings quote often.

Like Fireman said, one and two MOA targets are good. They present a challenging target especially when the wind is blowing.

That said you might be happier with something larger, maybe 15" to 20". They are easier to hit and provide instant feedback if you miss the center 1 or 2 MOA dot. This is especially true if you or your buddies are working on your long range skill and have a hard time spotting your own shots or calling corrections for each other.

I have targets from 10" to 20" for this very reason. Not everyone I shoot with can hit a 1 minute target beyond 3 or 400 yards.

There is a metal shop I use that sells AR500 for the best prices I have found.

We set ours up using 8" diameter plates, the farther out the harder it became. Allowed new comers to build confidence.

It all depends on the distance and positions you shoot from. In 3 gun, we usually keep everything 4 MOA or larger. This can make for some challenging shots, especially if you're rushed or shooting from a weird position while rushed, and the wind is blowing, and you're out of breath.
