I build guitars, and they call guitars made to look 50 years old "relic" finishes. Folks tend to be love/hate about it. Same thing with folks that buy blue jeans with holes in them already.

~5-10 years ago, when vintage guitars got crazy expensive, a lot of folks made relic guitars so guitarists would have the look of a vintage guitar with modern playability, reliability and at a fraction of the cost. Even top pro musicians have reliced or repro guitars. The guys that like shiny guitars absolutely hated relic gutiars and talked serious smack about players who liked relic guitars calling them all sorts of nasty things from posers to crooks. Personally, I liked the relic look on a guitar because with it preworn I didn't have to worry about cracks.

I'd have to see it. If you made it look like a Bozo the Clown rifle i'd probably give you some ribbing over it. Nothing too mean though.

Go for it unless you think there a chance of selling it or trading down the line.

This. It may affect resale value if you ever decide to sell it, but if you plan on keeping it, it's your gun and you're free to do whatever you want (within the boundaries of the las)

Do it. I used to care what people thought about what I did. I realized, who gives a S. My shield is color filled blue, I cut a .308 barrel down to 16". Just do what makes you happy. If anybody says anything, KMA.

Each to his own, I say. I've seen distressed paint patterns that looked good.

It's not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean that nobody else should do it if that is what they like.

If somebody giver you a hard time about it, remember that all this tells you is about their opinion. Opinions are all over the place, and always will be.

How ironic coming from the man that thinks if you don't shoot with a wood stock you're a "wonnabe sniper or mall ninja"

If you don't want people to talk about it, whether that be good or bad, don't do anything to it.

I have never said that, and you are a low-rent clown for suggesting that I did.

Are you available for children's parties?

From the "Sniper moving away from plastic and fiberglass thread"

Pretty sure you said everyone that shoots plastic, or painted guns are wonnabe snipers because they saw a movie. You've made the same asinine comments about "tactical" rifles in the past. Again if you don't shoot with top grain wood stocks you're a wonnabe sniper or mall ninja.
