I would also add the different methods for attachment. I have seen several good QD attachments, and some bad one's. Also any point of impact shifts with can on/off and subsonic vs. super sonic ammo.

Re: Silencer testing - 02/03/16 06:02 PM

What are you testing or are you reviewing?

For example in sub 800 cans is it noise reduction? Accuracy? On off accuracy? Etc

Since you brought up silencers please allow me ask a dumb question. Does a silencer effect recoil like a muzzle brake does?

Suppressor Recoil reduction

Re: Silencer testing - 02/03/16 08:36 PM

It's worth reading the link above, but the short answer is that a suppressor by itself reduces recoil by adding additional weight to the rifle at a location that's very helpful. Now, many suppressors can be mounted on attachments that have real brakes themselves. In that case you have both the benefit of the brake and the additional weight at a helpful location. That's the best of both worlds, at least I think so. I have a Griffin Armament Sportsman DT on a .30-06 and it's great, but it's nothing like my Griffin Armament Precision Hunter over a brake on my .338 LM, which takes a light .338 LM and makes it feel like a .308.

Absolutely. Recoil is reduced from the extra weight on the end of the rifle and from controlling the blast from the end of the barrel. I have noticed a reduction in recoil in everything from a .45 ACP up to a 7mm Rem Mag.

Re: Silencer testing - 02/03/16 10:41 PM

If you use two same model silencers on a single rifle, does POI change? I've been keeping my silencers to the specific rifles I sighted in with. I plan to do a test in the future. Or I could just test it on hogs smile

My Omega silencers have ports/integrated anchor brakes.

Ya, I've seen a couple but I need to experience my suppressor vicariously through reviews until it gets out of jail so I need more! Also none of them really measured DB's. It's also nice to get different people opinions on it.

Yay! Good to hear you are a fan of the taper mounts! As I am planning on using my Optimus for hunting. I was worried POI shift might be a problem.

Looking forward to the review! (I want your life)

Ha, that's funny
I work a lot of hours during my normal high stress job that includes travelling and trying to get all the reviews done, dealing with manufacturers, emails, phone calls, etc..

Sitting here waiting on a business partner to give me info so I can finish up a proposal that needs to be overnighted to a potential customer for something we have a 10% chance of winning.. Should have already left for the deer lease 3 hours ago!
