bipod feet - 02/01/16 03:24 AM

question: i shoot alot at local gun range. they provide a concrete bench with thin indoor/outdoor carpet on the bench. my harris bippod feet are the simple rubber. the gun is hopping alot. I have looked at cleats, spike, and ski. would love feedback.

Are you loading the bipod properly?

You can use a prone shooting mat on the table. It has enough cushion to absorb some of the jump and if it is like mine, it has webbing to pre-load the bipod. I find I do best if I don't overload the bipod, just enough pressure to take out any slack.

Is there a piece of wood or angle iron at the end of the bench?

no there is not. so i cant preload to fullest value. however, with out a front stop the carpet on top of the bench hardly allows any forward pressure before i loose traction. it feels like i am chassing this thing down the range. I am hoping and moving, and having to re-setup each shot. NOT GOOD. i was looking at some cleated feet. i am sure they would bite into the carpet, but i assume it wont slide back. maybe good or bad?

Just take a 1" x 2" and a couple of C clamps with you.

That is a quick fix, and was where I was going.
