Sig P220 10MM....wow - 01/18/16 03:56 AM

Picked up new Sig 220 10MM match elite today from my gun club. Wow. Just wow. This is the SA/DA one with decocker. SRT trigger kit. Did a quick field clean to get factory gunk off it and ran 50 rounds down it. Only out to 10 yards as I was losing light fast. Just hammered out the red. Recoil is about like my 226 9MM. This thing is heavy. Can say I am most pleased and think anyone else who is a 10MM fan would be too.

They are a thing of beauty. I fondled a 220 10mm the other day but it was a SAO. The dang thing felt very front heavy, not sure how it would be with a loaded mag though.

With mag in felt pretty balanced. Now it is heavy but only slightly more than any Colt 45 1911 or the delta 10. Would be a waist full to carry but after only 50 rds it sold me

The de-cocker, why do those scare me? How do they work? Some seem too fast to me and almost seem like they could still hit the firing pin too fast and actually fire a round. Is the pin disengaged at the time you hit the de cocker, making it safe?

Yes. On the sig it lets it down slowly but that's of no matter.
A decocker or manual decocking lever allows the hammer to be dropped on a live cartridge without risk of discharging it, usually by blocking the hammer or retracting or covering the firing pin before releasing the sear. This eliminates the need to pull the trigger or to control the fall of the hammer

Sig firing pin has to be operated by the trigger not the decocker

Nice pistol!

Only problem I have with the 10mm is the ammo, when I was in college a buddy of mine got a 10MM Glock 20SF and he bought at least 10 different brands/types of ammo ranging from Blazer Aluminum case 200gr FMJ to Double Tap defense rounds; so he could figure out what his practice load and carry load would be.

They all functioned just fine but when we chronographed the ammos most of them were firing at .40cal; I distinctly remembered some of the most expensive "personal protection" rounds were WAY below their published velocity.

This particular buddy was a BIGTIME pistol competition shooter and had a Dillon press; he did some research and found out that the powder was the big issue with the 10mm - He started loading his own with "Long Shot" powder and it REALLY made the difference in getting the most out of the caliber.

Dang! There's just something about a 2 tone 220 that does it for me!
