Bad news from the gunsmith

Bad news from the gunsmith - 01/12/16 03:31 AM

My barrel is too thin to thread at 5/8x24 so my brake isn't going to work. Guess I'll just have them cut and crown and I'll send the brake back.

Just order a heavier contour barrel and have them do their magic with it. It's only money. peep

If you really need a brake they are some clamp on ones on the market.

I don't need a brake, its just a .308. I just wanted one. Not a deal breaker.

Heavy barrel is in the plans at some point. Rifle will be headed to derrick sometime this year I hope.

He said there is room to go down to 1/2x28. Guess I could do that and exchange my brake.

That's cool, I didn't even know those existed. But I think this is probably for the best. Less money invested in a barrel I'm just going to replace eventually anyways.

1/2"x28 is the AR-15 threading, which is pretty small for a 308. You can go 9/16"x??, whatever that common threading is for rifles. There are many brakes threaded for that 9/16" threading also. I have done several of those. The 9/16 is common on your sporter size barrels.
