silenced 22-250

Good morning
I have a savage 22-250 varmint rifle that I am thinking about getting a suppressor for. My question is does it make enough of a difference to make that kind of investment? The hand loads I shoot are pushing 3800 fps and I have been told that a suppressor makes a minimal difference on rounds moving that fast. Does anyone out there have a suppressed 22-250 and how big of a difference does it make on noise?

It will help very well! I run suppressors on a 300 win mag, .243, 6.8 spc, .308 and 556. I will never shoot unsuppressed anymore. It will cut down a great bit of the blast and littlebit of recoil it has.

I use a 300 Win Mag rated suppressor on every rifle I have, including 22-250. Of course it makes a difference. You go from needing plugs or muffs to no hearing protection required. You do get away with more while hinting suppressed. This year I shot into a sounder of hogs. Hit one, they shuffled a bit then went back to rooting, I hit a second one 200 yards out. After the second hit the sounder ran toward me since they couldn't tell where the shots were coming from. Once you hunt suppressed you'll always hunt suppressed.

Let's talk about what a suppressor does. When you fire a full power, supersonic round, you get 2 things- the "bang" and the sonic crack from the bullet. A suppressor reduces the "bang" sound from the gas release when the bullet exits the barrel. It will often quiet it enough to safe levels on a full power load.

Next, you get the sonic crack from the bullet going faster than the speed of sound. It's just like a whip from a cowboy when they pop it. The end of the whip breaks the speed of sound, and makes the crack. The bullet does the same thing when it is fired above ~1110 fps. So, if your bullet is going 2000 fps or 3800 fps, it does not matter. You get the same sonic crack from both speeds.

A suppressor will certainly help reduce the sound signature on your 22-250. Get a 308 Win can, and put it on anything 308 or smaller. You will love it!

I have a suppressed 22-250 it does make a difference, it will save your ears... i have a .223 can on mine and it is awesome you wont be disappointed.

I shoot a suppressed 220 Swift as my coyote calling rifle with a 75 AMAX. It makes a big difference. Even if for no more reason than saving your hearing, it is worth it. I don't like shooting anything unsuppressed any more.

Like mentioned, it will make a big difference on any gun. I can shoot a 7 rem mag suppressed and not need any hearing protection. I used it on my 308 this last weekend and shot 3 hogs. I shot over deer to hit the hogs. The deer were 30 yards in front of the stand. They just stood there and watched the hogs after the shot and then ran toward the stand. 10 minutes later different deer would come out or another sounder of pigs. Shooting suppressed didn't scare away the other game. One shot didn't mean you were completely done hunting.

Like Chad said, it sounds like the crack of a whip and you hear the bullet hit the target. It covers up that loud bang. A guy 1/4 mile away said he could hear the crack and to him it sounds like when someone gut shot an animal. I shot a pig from outside the camp house (metal frame building). Inside they heard something but they weren't sure if I'd made a shot or not. And I was 5 feet from the side of the building.

I shoot my 300WM pushing the 208 Amax at 3000fps. Totally hearing safe with my suppressor. Like the others have said, a quality can will make a huge difference.
