Need FFL with escrow service close to Allen for private Sale - 10/30/15 09:38 PM

This is the first time I’m doing this. So I’m buying a gun out of state and need an FFL accepting private sale.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Google...Hart Sports (Tom Hart). He's in Plano and should be able to help you out.

Tom doesn’t accept escrow service. I’m buying an expensive gun and the idea is:

- The seller ships the rifle to my FFL
- I inspect it
- I send the money
- The seller confirms he has the money
- I take the rifle home

DO you guys know any FFL accepting escrow?

Good luck with that. Ive bought and sold machineguns (vey expensive) and no one will do escrow. The seller will tell you to jump in a lake.

If its that expensive and you are unsure, pass on the item or fly out to see it.

I have always bough my guns FTF or directly from a gun shop. So for me this is the first time. The seller is relatively new and doesn’t have much history on another forum. This is why I asked him to ship the rifle first. It’s him who suggested the escrow approach. I’m not willing to take any risks as this is not the deal of century. I can buy it new with 10% more. The gun is LNIB AIAT.

I wouldn't do it as the seller..
Too much risk..
What happens if the "buyer" just flakes out?

Why would a buyer take all the risks? What's the rational? The seller can very well cash the money order and not send anything.

Its a catch 22. I have done several deal on trust and luckily it has always worked out. I usually do some research and find a physical address for the other party so I have recourse if necessary.

In the case of NFA, the transfer is completed before the gun changes hands. If this was a truck, would you let someone transfer the title before they paid you? There are a few dealers which will allow your to make installments while waiting on your paper, but mostly it is 100% cash up front.

You might try a pawn shop, but I would expect them to hit you with ~15-20% for the escrow and handling fee.

If you are talking about a real chichi gun, the Beretta Gallery in Dallas might help. I would also expect them to get a piece of the action.

Because how does the buyer know that the FFL you gave isnt your cousin. Once its in the FFL hands the buyer is taking all the risk.

No seller I know would agree to this. Yeah ship the gun, if it gets lost its your prob. Btw shipping a gun isnt cheap either. If the buyer flakes you have to ship it back.

10% off for a LNIB/used? Pay for a new one

this is the correct answer

what if you do a visual and decide to pay, now money has been sent. and for me generally I can't get out and do any shooting except on weekends.

weekend comes and you decide to shoot it, doesn't work. what have you got??

buy new, and save yourself some headache

If there's any doubt, there is no doubt. Walk away.

It’s not so much about trust. It’s more about accepting taking risks.
Anyhow…I have found an FFL and the seller has already shipped the rifle.

It’s an Accuracy International AT and at the end it will cost me 10% less than new. That’s already $400 to $500…
Another thing… The gun is less than a year old. The action has only around 150 rounds and the barrel is brand new. Those guns are built like tanks and you can swap barrels in 30 seconds. It’s very unlikely it won’t shoot.

Sounds like a normal transfer to me, not so much an ESCROW

TXGUNNER308 (www.jptensports.com) was kind enough to be my FFL for this transaction. Everything went smoothly.
The seller send the rifle
I went to inspect it
Send the payment
Seller confirmed
I took the gun home.
Honestly I think this is how all FFL gun transactions should be. Why take unnecessary risks? Also, I wouldn’t mind paying more money for this additional service.

And here’s the beast.
