Hogue stocks

How do ya'll clean them, mine needs it and I don't want to use
anything that will ruin it.

Have taken one that needed cleaning off the rifle and washed it with soap and water. Make sure it is dry good and screw it back together.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I wonder if there is anything else that just
wipes on and off.

Donot know what else would work. Would be worried about using harsh chemicals on one.

When in doubt call Hogue tomorrow, bet they will help ya.

Hogue's website suggests using WD-40, but that won't work for a hunting rifle. I also saw mention of the Armor-All cleaning wipes, and the non-pumice waterless hand cleaning solutions.

Baby wipes?

This^^. Baby wipes work well for weapons maintenance, I have used them on everything from an M4 to a M2. But if you don't have to improvise, then don't. You've got that nice stock, do it right. Take it off and wash it up in a sink full of warm soapy water, like Dawn or something.

I use scent-free Huggies baby wipes on my two Hogue-stocked rifles. Works great.

For a simple cleaning..... Wash them down with soapy dishwater and let air dry then rub a LIGHT coat of Armoral; and your good to go.

FYI Armoral works great for the black "boat paddle" stocks that used to come on Ruger rifles.


Had a Hogue stock rifle loaned to a buddy of mine that he slung over his shoulder while walking a creek bank looking for a blood trail; he fell and tumbled in the creek and the rifle was COVERED in mud. I mean you couldn't have put more mud on that rifle with a shovel, barrel plugged and everything!

1. We took it and sprayed it out with a water hose(low pressure) until we got all the surface mud off.

2. Took the stock off the rifle and filled a bath tub up with hot water and dawn dish washing detergent.(shallow bath depth 4-5" water and 1 tsp soap)

3. Changed the soapy water 3-4 times until no more mud/grit came out when we moved the rifle, stock and scope around.

4. Took the barreled action all the way down as far as we could take it (Ruger 77 MKII 30-06 stainless); which is basically taking the bolt out and disassembling the bolt and sprayed EVERY metal part with gun scrub and let the stock and all metal parts dry out under a shop light and then re-lubed every metal surface of the gun and wiped down the stock with Armoral.

It looked like nothing had happened at all and never had any rust problems and shot just as good as it had before.

Sorry to get long winded but this experience is another reason I love Hogue stocks and put them on almost all my rifles.

That's great, but I think virtually any stock would have cleaned up just as well.

i used wd40 on mine and it worked great.
