McMillan Stocks

McMillan Stocks - 08/23/15 02:32 AM

For those that have ordered a stock from them recently. How long did take to get it? Ordered one form them the first of May and still waiting mad
You'd think they would add employees or equipment or both if they are constantly having excessive lead times for delivery.
Rant off.......

Unfortunately you are still within the norm on time. It's one of the worst waits there is

Ordered the first of May? You may get it by December, at best. Business as usual with McMillan and Manners.

I've called the sales rep at Manners twice in the last week with no return call. The next call will be Monday and it will be to Tom Manners, a.k.a. "The Boss". Especially since I started the process in March and only asked for an MCS-EH1 with no care of what color the stock was. He said they had one made but not inletted, it would be no problem to inlet for a Tikka (friend's rifle) and it should reduce the process to 8 weeks. 20 weeks later and no stock.

No need to get bent out of shape, this is how it is with them. The best thing to do (if possible) is to find a stock with a retailer instead of ordering a full custom spec stock.

Well as you well know finding a LH stock with a 14" lop at a reatailer is almost impossible. They told Robert at APR 10-12 weeks when he ordered it. If they had told us 8 or 9 months when it was ordered that would be one thing. I'm thinking that if I want to have this one to use this season I'll just have to buy a HS and use it until the McMillan comes in.

Whoops. I didn't know it was a lefty. We are on their schedule, and no there are none available at retailers.

I have really considered buying right handed stocks, filling in the handle gap on the right side, and making a new one on the left. But the stock isn't made of steel so I'm not so confident in my abilities.

This is exactly what I did for my manners t4. Bought a right handed stock, and sent it back in for filling and reinletting. Worked out great!

McMillan and Manners are easily 5-6 months and have always been . Sometimes they squirt one out in 4.

Was at Manners shop Friday finger fondling Tom's hunting stocks and he quoted me 6 months. Was like a beehive in there with LOTS of stocks being boxed for shipment. His carbon stocks are amazing and the number of configurations available are getting more numerous. My next stock will be a carbon Manners stock in some configuration.

My last McMillan was about 4 1/2 months. It was a Classic style for a 700. I think Mcmillan is doing better with delivery and is closer to 4-5 months for common stocks. If you ordered something they don't get allot of orders for, you could easily be 6+. I waited over 8 months for one a couple years ago.

My last 3 were all 6 months, The stock always is the item which holds up builds. if you don't want a custom swirly you can maybe find one in stock somewhere unless you're a lefty then you're in trouble.

They are worth the wait, most guys will have one always on order for another build and can surely sell it to get their money back if they don't need it upon delivery.

I have McMillans on all of my rifles and love them, but just don't tell me 10-12 weeks and then take 6 months.
I shoot left handed so I'm at their mercy or lack thereof.

Re: McMillan Stocks - 08/25/15 04:01 PM

They build so many stocks for top tier shooters. When average Joes order stocks they get put at the bottom of the list. It really sucks how it works but that's the way it is.

Manners and McMillian sure do make amazing products though.

Re: McMillan Stocks - 08/25/15 04:31 PM

When I ordered mine they told me it would be six months. It was a left handed stock on a right handed action. They were pretty much right on with their timeline.

This is exactly why we have started Iota Outdoors. We purchase a bunch of McMillan stocks and I never can get them in a timely manner. They make a great product but the lead-times are hard to plan around. Along with accessories Iota's main focus is going to be a line of aftermarket stocks. Here is a little preview of what is coming down the pipe.

Very Cool Derrick, keep us posted. Keep it high quality though

Re: McMillan Stocks - 08/25/15 05:55 PM

Derrick, how many stocks will McMillan let you order at one time? I now its allot of cash out. You can always just order tan or Black the custom paint on orders.

Re: McMillan Stocks - 08/25/15 06:11 PM

We order a mix of different patterns. I think the most I have had on order is around 30.

Yep, we are shooting for December release but should be cutting moulds next week. Finishing up cutting the hard prototype this week. Going to build some inventory first before we get slammed like everyone else.

Re: McMillan Stocks - 08/25/15 11:02 PM

I don't have material BOMs yet so not exactly sure as we are still working on Gelcote/ finishing options. Trying to hit between HS and McMillian is the goal but I wont be able to give hard numbers for about a month.
