Shooting Bench

can anyone recommend a good source for plans to build a wood bench. right hand or a right/left combo.

You could try Google, there are a lot of plans out there. After looking at a few I just designed my own. I didn't intend to move it much so it's really heavy but it's also going to last forever. It's still light enough I can load it myself in a truck. I used nearly a half-sheet of 3/4" plywood for the top with cutouts for both left and right. I intentionally made it large so I'd have plenty of room for other guns, ammo, spotting scope, etc. I'd share a picture but I don't think I took one. In addition to the plywood, I used 4 8' 4x4s for the four legs and two horizontal supports, and 2-3 8' 2x4s for the frame under the plywood and leg braces.

We sent plans to the local ag shop to make them to sell. Can't locate those plans though. Top is made out of 2x6s, legs are (2) 2x6s around 4x4s, there's a 2x6 cross braces with the front one having a hole drilled though it and rope through it with a knot keeping it from pulling out and loop on the other end..also on 2x6 skids. Seats are 2x6 and are angled on each side for Lefties and righties. Can be drug out of the way to mow with a 4wheeler and pulled onto a trailer with a 4wheeler to have it mobile to switch between properties.

I would lay on my belly but it's too big and the weeds are waaay to tall. Problem is if I lay there too long I fall asleep!

These guys make a couple of aluminum shooting stands that are really nice.

Mine looks something like this, but with 2x4s instead of 2x6s, not quite that much cross bracing, and I didn't mount seats to mine because one height doesn't fit all.

I made 10 of these for our club, around $100 each.

Black pipe tubing for legs and one sheet of pressure treated 3/4" plywood (cut in half-glued together for 1.5" thick top) Seat is adjustable, piano stool type using a disc blade for a base. Can show you more pics if you're interested.

These have been outdoors in use for over 20 years.

Hey Rembrandt. What does one of those weigh? Would you build one for $100 to sale? If so I'm interested.

These are made here in Waco and are quite sturdy.... I bought three for various pastures I shoot in.

He made mine ambidextrous

Mine looks like Rembrandt's, except the legs are treated 4x4's, with bracing. I also have wheels on the front legs so that I can move it if I need to. That works Ok, but the wheels allow some wiggle of the bench. My seat is an old metal stool.

I highly agree with making the top dual sided so leftys can shoot, and make it big enough to hold ammo boxes, spotting scope, and cleaning gear. Unless you are space limited, the bigger the top the better.

Also, since the rough plywood top was rubbing my elbows raw, I covered the top with thin rubber matting.
