700 VTR - 08/08/15 09:24 PM

I have a lot of semi-autos and milsurps but only a few decent bolt action rifles. So I felt I "needed" something like this .308 I didn't like these rings so I got some better ones today.

Looks good, let us know how it shoots!

Other than being what looks like 1/2" too high, those rings look fine to me.

That's an attractive rifle, let us know how it shoots.

Ya I had those laying around. The new ones dropped it down a bit.

I've got one but it's 11.25 twist, most of them are 12.
The 12's like 168 gr, mine likes 175 and even 190.

175 SMK or 178 A-max.

I graduated from SMK to A-max when I shot .308. The A-maxes have the ballistic edge.

44.0-45.0 gr of Varget.

Yep I agree, I'm glad they are now putting 1/10 in the new ones!

If I'm stuck with 1:12 what bullets should I consider?

168 SMK for targets 165 SGK's or SST's for medium to large game.

(Any 165-168, Partition, Speer Spitzer, VLD, whatever)

Might want to check out the new Sierra 175 tipped MK's. I am running them from a 20 inch barrel and depending on climate factors normally get to 1000 with 9.9-10.1 Mils

These are worth trying for target. They will leave north of 2800 fps out of a 24" barrel

An even better option! Look at the BC on the 168 gr !

I agree on the 165 gr to 168 gr. hunting bullet. A good ole' 165 gr. SGK Spire Point Boat Tail is still a contender.
