SG&Y .300 Jarrett - 08/05/15 06:43 PM

I recently inherited a rifle that is a .300 Jarrett made by SG&Y .
Can't find out alot about them except the company is out of business and it's a custom caliber.
It's not made by Kenny Jarrett. Synthetic stock with stainless heavy barrel and spider webbing. The scope is a Leupold Mark 4 8.5x25 50mm LR/T.
I know what the scope is worth but can't find any value on the rifle.
Anybody got one of these guys?

Sg&y is or was Speedy Gonzales company one of the best bench rest shooters and gunsmiths in the country. He's now a instructor at the Trinidad school of ginsmithing.

I talked with someone at the Jarrett Rifle Co. and he said he was familiar with SG&Y but wouldn't/couldn't give me any info. on them, or what the gun is worth.
They can supply me with ammo though. 8mm Rem mag necked down to a 30 cal.
Should be interesting.

Great gun...they used Kenny's barrels...without seeing your gun, a rough value would be between 1800-5000 depending on features and condition.. I know it's a big spread but in customs that's the norm...I bet it shoots good. I have a friend that has shot most of the worlds sheep with a 300 Jarrett.

Chances are stick built it anyway, he did all of the chamberings and stock work.
He builds an excellent gun.

If it's low mileage barrel it's worth quite a bit.

The 300 Jarrett is pretty much cooked at 700 rounds.
Is it a hunting weight gun? Or is it a heavy barrel gun?
If you post a pic I can help you with value.

What action is it?, trigger? Stock?
It's loaded from 8mm rem mag brass, or 7mm stw brass you have to step the neck up to .308, and fire form before loading full power.

Retumbo and h1000 is excellent in it and if you shoot 155's it will go nearly 4000 fps.
I have seen deer with 10" holes blown through them.

From what I've been told by a person more knowledgeable than I about such things, it's been built on a Remington 700 stock.
It is a heavy barrel, a Hart(?) I believe, and has a Jewel (?) trigger.
It doesn't appear to have been used much at all and been well taken care of. The few rounds that were with it are 8mm Rem. Mag casings.
Looks like they could stop a tank.

Ammo for the 300 Jarrett is easy to make necking down 8mm Rem Mag brass. If you need any ammo, let me know. I can do any bullet you want.
