I would like to learn to shoot it well ( love revolvers ) and at some point will be trying for a pig - will also be buying a pair of Wolf ears to hunt and protect my hearing with & maybe a open fingered shooting glove have to see how snappy it will be. Will be leaving for the W. Tx. lease Friday evening and will practice with it all weekend- Hammer Time.
Starting with some white box Winchester 240gr JFP for a lite plinking round. this will give me 100 brass to reload. Just need dies, I have press/powder/primers already.

Won't kick much at all. Doesn't burn all the powder but makes a heck of a flash

Nice! I have a 10/22 that only the bolt and receiver are stock on, and I have a Ruger American Standard in 7mm-08. I would like to add either a Single-Six convertible with 5.5" barrel or a Single Nine and Ten to the collection.

Snub-nosed .44. You'll be able to see the muzzle blast from space!

You are supposed to shove it up against their belly, so the noise and blast goes where it will do the most good.

Hence the term, "Belly-Gun".

With that snub, if you get close enough, you'll be able to kill them and cook them at the same time.

I favor Rugers but if you like flashy and old school combined, find a friend who's hacked a Blackhawk .30C to 4 5/8". They're loud and flashy enough at 7.5".

WILL be a soft/sweet shooter with cowboy loads or 44 special.

I'd choose a 44 over a 357 anyday. That 357 wrote the book on snap.

Love the Alaskan. It's manly. I have the 454 model. The fire ball from the muzzle is huge and it's so loud it sounds like a rifle, but you'll be surprised how accurate it can be despite the short barrel. It's easier to shoot than a lot of other stubbies because it's heavy.

Thanks for all the replys. Had it out at the lease in Cisco all weekend - shooting 240gr JFP Winchester flat points. Was really no problem to shoot or hang on to. Would practice & reload 2 or 3 times then give it a break . would start to feel recoil in my hand if I pushed shooting over about 24 rounds at one time. Even talked my wife into shooting it - she has small hands and said it was too much for her.

Accuracy is very good - I am at the point now 25 yard called shots are no problem and after a few more boxes of 44mag 50 yards should be no problem. Just for Grins tried it out at a 100 yard rifle target that was left on the Lease Range 1x2 foot target with multiple targets on the paper. Shot 3 times and was able to hit it one time. 100 yard is going to take a lot of practice.

Found out another use for the Alaskan : Hand Ax

we were setting up Blinds & clearing Mesquite from shooting lanes - left the saw on ATV and my wife went to go get it . Had a inspiration while she was doing that Pulled out the Alaskan & 2 shots will take down a 3-4" mesquite tree no problem by the time she walked back had 3 trees down and cleared with 6 shots .

Noise: Very Loud - have not shot it without hearing protection do not want my ears ringing for days.

Muzzle flash : no problem in the daytime but very impressive at night - will post a pic later.

all in all very cool pistol - after a few more boxes of ammo will be trying it out on some pigs.

Cool guns.

I have a question:

If there is no part on a rifle that is original except the magazine, why buy the original rifle in the first place? confused2

I'm wanting to get the S&W snubbie in either the 500 or the 460 to compliment the 460 8 3/4 I already have. Figured it would make a decent pocket gun for walking around the lease.

BP you must have some BIG pockets - I now consider the 44 Alaskan fun to shoot w/240gr( with proper hearing protection) but a 500 snubbie w/440gr LFN GC rated at 1625fps & 2579ft lb from buffalo bore might not be as much fun. Heck the 44 w/ 330 grain hammerheads from buffalo bore might not be any fun either

Just weighed the Alaskan - approx. 2.4lb's then add six 240gr 44mags at 1 oz each and it tops out right 3.00xxxx lbs full up. Bet that S&W full up with big bore will be pushing 3.6lb or more. It should makes a awesome fireball the 44 throw a 2-3 foot fireball at night
