Adjustable has blocks...

are they worth the cost? Looking at the Syrac because of the detent clicks and the good reviews. Price is about $85. Going to combine that with a Precision Armament muzzle brake to try and eliminate the rise of the AR for faster follow up shots.

What I understand is they really are, especially when running a suppressor. Seems to me the benefits are getting a good load to shoot tight as well as cycle reliably. I have had plans to get one as soon as I start load development on my AR carbine.

If that's your goal, go with a JP tank brake or a titan. You can tune the gas to achieve your goal. The adjustable block is also good for shooting heavy loads, so you don't damage the rifle.

JP Tank break isn't as good at reducing the recoil as the PA, watched a few comparison videos where measurements were taken to the 1/16 and the PA beat the JP by almost half the distance

Pretty much when you search adjustable gas blocks Syrac's name comes up the most. The detent thing is a good feature if your constantly going to be changing it back and forth for different loads. You first work out your load and count how many "clicks" it takes you. That way when changing back and forth you just go to what you previously have recorded and be done kind of like MIL/MOA clicks on a scope. As far as them being able to be tuned to a load and tuned with a break it can be done just takes some trial and error to figure out what works. Like Jason said they're a huge benefit when shooting suppressed as well. I should have my arse kicked for not buying one for my LR308 lol when I shoot mine it shoots the brass forward about 1-2 o'clock instead of sideways which means it's way over gassed. Speaking of this I think I need to buy me one lol.

If you're planning on tuning it for several different loads I'd suggest one of the gas blocks with the detent clicks hands down, If you're going to tune it for one load set it and forget it, I'd suggest like the Seekins adjustable. Cheaper and works exactly the same just no detents. Also a good bang for the buck is the Joeboboutfitters adjustable gas block. Joebob's been putting out some quality stuff at a pretty good price point.

KRoyal... I've been hearing and reading that the Seekins has had problems with the adjustment screw backing out. I assume you can loctite it?

Yea it's just a brass set screw so it doesn't mar the steel or aluminum treads of the adjustment screw, you can locktite it. Although I hate using locktite on anything though lol.

Take a look at SLR Rifleworks also. They have the detents and a lifetime warranty.

For your average guy just hunting I don't feel they are worth it. For those of us running hot loads, suppressed or competition(faster follow up shots) adjustable gas blocks are the way to go. I have a .308 that I am putting one on. Unsuppressed it's fine but with the can it's so over gassed that it bounces the case off of the shell deflector and it ends up back inside the receiver.

SLR, I had to run one on my AR-10 when suppressed to keep it from over-gassing. If your not having cycling issues or running suppressed i'd save your money.
