Need scope mounting help

Need scope mounting help - 06/16/15 03:44 AM

I am replacing my old redfield with a vortex viper. The gun is a 700 bdl in 30-06. I'm having two problems. Problem number me is that the rings contact the scope just after the obj bell and the magnification adjustment. This makes it impossible to adjust eye relief. The second problem is magnification adjustment hits the base.

So what do I need to do to shorten the distance between the rings and is there anything I can do to raise the scope other than getting medium rings? Below are pics.

With those style rings a one piece picatinny rail would give a lot of adjustment...

Buy a one piece base or a different scope.

Will turning the front base around or switching the front and rear put the rings closer together? Sometimes that works. As for your other issue, Dremel or switch bases or rings.

Burris signature rings are narrower. As to height, you need to look at different mfg's heights for their rings as they vary quite a bit.

Looks to me like a rail and taller rings are the only way to go.

Thanks for the good deal on the encore , looks great, can't wait to fire it

What they said or offset ring will shorten the distance between the rings

As mentioned, I went with a picatinny rail on my r700 and a 1 piece
mount, works well.

The pictures are kinda dark but it looks like you still have room to move your front ring back, which will allow you to move the scope back as well possibly solving both issues. Also make sure your bases aren't reversed.

One piece picatinny rail. Put the rings anywhere you please.

one more vote for a one-piece rail and rings of your choice. I have some Seekins rings that I like. Lots of good ones.

Try DNZ one piece rings and base, worked on my Rem 700 LA with Vortex scope. The rings are about an inch closer together which allowed plenty of adjustment for eye relief

Got it fixed up. Just took a one piece base.

Good dealing with you as well. Have fun with it. It served me well!

Warne also makes extended bases if people don't care for the looks of a picatinny. I run into this problem most often with Remington 700, Howa 1500 and Vanguard S2, they all use the same base.
