Got to stretch the AR creeds legs today!

Got to stretch the AR creeds legs today! - 04/02/15 12:05 AM

TacPro in Mingus is open again after a gas company closed them down for a few months to put a gas line across their property. I finally got to get my Creedmoor out and shoot at a 1000 yards. The furthest I have shot this gun was 500. I used the "I snipe" app and was surprised how spot on it was. It called for 9.67 Mils hold. My gun ended up using 9.6 Mils.

5 shot group

Another 5 shot group

I was happy with the results. Just gotta find the time to spend on the Range.

Many a day have I spent on that range. 10 years ago tacpro was the only game in town.

Andrew Brady at Lonestar Armory is a good dude.

Well done.

Andrew has built several AR rifles for me. He is a great guy for sure. Here is a group that was shot with the sister rifle of mine. 750 yards! He builds awesome rifles for sure.

Re: Got to stretch the AR creeds legs today! - 04/02/15 02:46 AM

I'm surprised the rifle likes 140's. Seems like a lot of guys have problems blowing primers with even factory 140 grain ammo.
Most of them are running 123 and 130's.

Whatever you are doing seems to be working. Keep it up.

I'm jealous of that leupold by the way. If that sucker has the tmr reticle, then that is very close to perfection.

Capped windage, Low profile M5c2 turret, FFP, compact, and a good mag range.
What more could a guy ask for?

Re: Got to stretch the AR creeds legs today! - 04/02/15 02:59 AM

The factory ammo is hot in a gas gun. He uses the JP high pressure bolt,SLR adjustable gas block and different buffer and spring combos. I have occasional swipes but no blown primers or blow by. 140s is what he suggested using with H4350 powder. I did the load development and shared what I found.

And yes, the scope has the TMR reticle with illumination. It wasn't cheap, but it was cheaper than a S&B. Buy once, cry once!

This is a 12.5" 6.8 he build for me

Cull buck he shot off my place this year with a 308

I wasn't questioning your approach. I was just surpised is all. Obviously, you guys have it figured out!

Is there a place closer to Dallas than TacPro?

Jacobs plain gun club in greenville is by far the best place around dfw to shoot.

$40

Only catch is you have to check with me before coming out. Vast majority of the time you can come when you want.

Andrew builds some fine rifles. Great shooting Tye! I witnessed that 700 yard group. Jeremy Moore from Shooter's Source shot that group laying prone, from a bipod with no rear bag. Impressive marksmanship from an impressive rifle. I'm going to be forced to put a deposit down soon... Patrick at ETSS has an impressive facility that's relatively close to Dallas.

Is 40 for the day or the month?

What am I missing here? I've been to Jacob's Plain and didn't care for it at all.

The day.

The land payment is $860 a month, me charging $40 for a shooter to have the place to himself for a day is more than reasonable.

Just a question. I wasn't implying that it was too much. I am a member here for 50 a month but it only goes to 200 max. I know in your neck of the woods that places are way more scarce than they are here, especially one with distances like yours. No offense meant.

Re: Got to stretch the AR creeds legs today! - 04/06/15 12:07 AM

Exactly. I have berms every hundred to 800, an elevated covered platform, steel everywhere but a hundred. It takes lots of work to keep it up. I have very few people that I let shoot there, so I think I'm fair.

When was the last time you went to Jacob's?

Jacobs is within an hour of my house.
1100 yard range.
4 shooting lanes over several degrees from one shooting position.
one lane has steel at 450, 550, 650, 750
next lane has 400,500, 600-1100
next lane has steel at 475,575,675,775,875, and 1k
I'm not sure about the other lane.

And they have several barricades to shoot from.

What other place in DFW offers this? Because I sure haven't found it yet. At tacpro, everyone has to shoot at the same distances. At jacobs I can transition between 475 and 875 on one lane, and then pan over and shoot 650 on another lane without disrupting anyone.

The only other option is to join the TXPRC and shoot local comps.

Looks nice... Already belong to TSDA, just wish I could go further than 300 yards there. I need two range memberships like another hole in the head.

I have shot at JG's place several times and it is more than fair. The other huge benefit is that I have already used up most of the misses on his range so your outing should be successful. peep
