Budget build is nearing completion - 03/31/15 04:51 PM
Been working on building a longer range rifle one piece as a time for about a year. All I need now is a barrel, I'll be rebarreling to 6.5-06, but only if I decide I enjoy long range shooting (which is the #1 reason it was built on a tight budget. Didn't want to invest $2500-$3000 on a full blown custom if I either didn't like long range shooting, or didn't have a knack for it).
Picked up a savage 111 in .270win on the forum last year with a nikon prostaff 4-12x40 last year off the forum to start the build.
Savage 111-$500
Timney trigger- $90 thanks to a midway coupon
Choate ultimate varmint stock- $100 thanks to a THF'er
Falcon menace 4-14x44 FFP moa/moa with target turrets and side focus- $200 thanks to the same THFer
Warne maxima rings-$54 could have paid less online but I had a giftcard
Caldwell xla 6"-9" bipod- $40
Total cost of build $984 just under my $1000ish budget I was hoping for.
I've got 100 rounds of match grade ammo being loaded by chad as we speak, and I'm really looking forward to getting it out to the farm and stretch it out a little bit.
I'm really happy with the way I turned out. Obviously due to the budget, I had to make a couple compromises, but I think I made the right compromises.
