Silencer Shop (UGH!!!)

Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 03/26/15 11:00 PM

As they promise, it was just as easy as placing an order on Amazon!

I didn't need to hang onto that money anyways.
Someone has to help keep the economy going, right?

The wait begins.

Excuse the dumb question but why are these things so EXPENSIVE? And I mean silencers in general, not just this manufacturer.

I've always thought it's because there's a limited market. If they were non NFA items everybody could walk in and walk out with, price would go down. Plus, materials and manufacturing. Some is brand name. Huntertown Arms doesn't charge near as much as others and makes great stuff.

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 03/27/15 10:11 PM

That makes sense. I was curious if it had to do with exclusive materials or difficult manufacturing process, or a combination of the two.

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 03/28/15 02:23 AM

If they were non-nfa, I'm sure we could buy them at Wally World for $149+ depending on materials. That, however, is not the world in which we live.

Because they are class 3. In Europe silencers are preferred, not regulated and are cheap. One of the companies we represent is Walther and they sell all of their models over there with silencers. The charge anywhere from 99.00 euro to 199 euro extra fot them. They laugh at the US market price on them.

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 03/30/15 12:29 AM

In Africa, you can buy a silencer for under $100. Europe they're $150.
You need a gun to use one and they already do background checks on those in the US.

Silencer Shop is awesome, they make the process easy.
I have seen guys post where they built a silencer for very little, like $30.

I don't think it's been out long enough for an individual to get a stamp back yet. You'll likely only see professional reviews from shops or reviewers that have friends in SilencerCo.

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 03/31/15 01:24 PM

How does the process work as far as paying for the silencer/weapons? Do I need to open an account for the trust to buy weapons with, or can I just pay for them myself?

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 03/31/15 07:17 PM

Use your own credit card.

If you already have a Trust, then you just put the Toy & Tax Stamp in your Shopping Cart.
Pay with your CC.

It is as quick as shopping on Amazon etc.

They will send you an email with an Order# & Serial#.

Email, Fax etc a copy of your Trust.
DONE.

If you pay an extra $5, they take care of the paperwork and mailing it for you after you answer some questions on their site. Then you just do a background check when you pick it up, same as for a gun.
If you don't pay the $5, then they should mail you the forms needed.

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 04/01/15 03:50 PM

I believe ordering online is similar to buying directly at their store in Austin. Difference is they must either email or mail you the documents for necessary signatures.

1. Purchase the Can
2. Trust $129.95 They print it, you sign it, they notarize it,and they submit it electronically. Future Can's purchased are added to the trust but I didn't ask what that fee is.
3. Tax Stamp $200 + $5 for them to handle sending it. They print the paperwork for your signature. The tax stamp is per Can.

Once you select your Can (s), it takes maybe 5 minutes to complete the documents.

Sounds like this would be better to do in person. I think I can make that happen. I'm assuming I can buy multiples at one time?

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 04/03/15 12:59 AM

BTW you must know the thread diameter of the barrel you will add the can on. The common sizes are 9/16, 5/8, and 1/2 ( I'm not on a computer to verify this) but its important to determine the thread size of the can and whether there are thread adapters for the barrel and can threads. For me, it made a difference on the 6.5 Grendell upper i wanted to order. You would think there is standard but the two most popular sellers have
different thread sizes.

Most larger rifles are 5/8-24, most .22s are 1/2-28. I'm having one rifle cut so it will be 5/8-24, my AR is 5/8-24, and the other rifle in question is likely 5/8-24. My .22 is 1/2-28 but it is getting its own can.

The AA Grendel's are 9/16, but confirm before you buy.

Re: Silencer Shop (UGH!!!) - 04/03/15 02:00 AM
