Thoughts/recommendations: 6.5 CM setup

Thoughts/recommendations: 6.5 CM setup - 03/13/15 10:04 PM

Looking to get either an AR 10 or a bolt in 6.5 Creedmoor with around a 20" a varmint/heavy barrel to run a suppressor on. Use will be stand hunting and a varmint rig. Other than the obvious differences, are there any advantages to running a bolt vs. AR in this configuration? Would like either setup to be as budget-friendly as possible.

In terms of an AR, DPMS made a 24" bull barrel model up through last year, but is now discontinued. No one else to my knowledge makes a factory Creedmoor AR setup. Anyone know of another factory offering or had a budget-friendly AR put together by someone in a similar setup that you could recommened in the D/FW area?

Appreciate any thoughts/experiences in what has worked for you.

The bolt gun will make more velocity because of what I call "the gas gun tax".

The AR will help you lose your brass. Other than that do what you feel is right.

If you plan on a Suppressor then bolt gun from my experience.
I have had both and gave up on the Suppressor for the AR sand installed a break.

Good to know, were you experiencing any particular problem?

The loss of pressure, due to cycling. Bolt guns don't lose any. This will affect the overall velocity of the projectile.

I'm with you, I thought he may be referring to an AR suppressor-specific issue.

Appreciate the comments, keep them coming. Looks like I will have to have an upper built if I go that route-any
recommendations?

Not 100% certain but I think all you need is an AR10 upper in 308 and do a barrel swap. I think the BCG and stuff still works.

I thought the "TAX" was losing the expensive brass with the semi-auto

I've got both and love both....the bolt is definitely more accurate but the AR, a DPMS, shoots very good! As for a loss in pressure, maybe but when I've measured the velocity of the AR with Hornady factory loads it's ran hotter than my hand loads for my bolt. I think you should get both! peep
