Which 700 model is this?

Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 02:18 AM

I am new to the Remington 700 and just got this in a trade. I have no idea what model this is. It has a stainless barrel and came with 3 stainless steel magazines. Its chambered in 7mm rem mag if it makes a difference. Any ideas?

700 DM stainless synthetic?

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 02:29 AM

Remington 700 Stainless DM (DM stands for detachable mag)

They also made this model with a muzzle break as well.

They are correct, had one in 7mm-STW.

Awesome, thanks. How does this fair with their current offerings as far as price and shoot-ability? Also, I see that there are SPS DM, CDL DM and BDL DM versions; any idea which this is?

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 02:58 AM

The BDL DM version had some scroll engraving, otherwise looked just like that

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 02:59 AM

Not the BDL or CDL for sure. I don't even think its the SPS DM either. At least I don't believe that's what they called it when that particular gun was made. I would say that would be a SS-DM

Ok thanks for the help guys, I guess thats good enough. I am probably going to sell it so I wanted to know what I actually had and an idea what to price it at. Any ideas for pricing?

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 03:06 AM

Just did some looking and I am almost certain it is in fact a SS-DM. If it has the muzzle break I believe it would be designated the DM-B.

That gun would pre-date the SPS version I am pretty sure.

BDL SS DM-B The -B was same rifle without the cheesy engraving

I will have to check to make sure but I am almost certain that the "-B" was added to the rifles with the factory muzzle break.

At least that's the way I remember it when I bought a brand new BDL DM. The only difference between the one I bought and the one designated as the DM-B was the factory break.

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 03:30 AM

Seems like the BDL DM-B has the break. So this would be the BDL SS-DM?

I would either call it that or just a SS-DM. I bought mine way back in 1998 I believe so I cant remember if they used the BDL designation on the stainless DM models or not. I know they do with the non DM stainless hinged floor plate models. Mine was the wood/blue BDL version so I know they used the "BDL" designation on mine. Just not sure if they did it with the stainless DM models.

Any idea on price for a used one in good shape? $750?

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 03:46 AM

I cant help you on price. I have been out of the Remington loop for a good while now and don't follow much of anything from them anymore.

I would just go to Gun Broker and see what people are asking for them and what people are actually bidding on them and maybe start somewhere in between those prices.

The jeweling condition on the bolt says that the round count is fairly low. My opinion is that it would be a tough sell at $750. Never know, though... It's your rifle. The extra mags help, but I think $100 or so less would be more in line. My opinion is worth what you paid for it... 2cents

What is the scope?

Pentax lightseeker 6-24x50

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 04:44 PM

Is the scope and everything else included in what you are pricing? That scope alone is about $650 new.

Seriously? I got the rifle and scope in a trade and the guy didn't know anything about it. There isn't much info I can find as far as pricing on the scope either. Do u have a link for that price for this scope?

Plus, you've got the bipod and the 3 magazines. If you've ever tried to buy a replacement magazine, they're usually around $60.

And that Harris bipod ain't cheap either.

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 07:11 PM

I bought a 700 BDL in stainless about 10-12 years ago. Mine was 25-06. They made them in different calibers

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 07:31 PM

I actually don't have the bipod, not included in the trade. I just didn't realize that scope was worth that amount. That's awesome lol.

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 07:39 PM

The scope I have only has 2 knobs, no parallax knob and doesn't say Lightseeker on the side. Not sure if it's just an older model or what. I saw all those examples in my research but figured it wasn't the correct ones.

This is from their website, looks like I just have an older version

Just add up the NIB price of all the individual components and divide by two and that's what you can expect to sell it for.

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 11:07 PM

If it doesn't say "Lightseeker" on the side, then it's likely a Gameseeker which is about $200 new.
Also, I believe all the 700 DM rifles are considered either BDL or CDL. The difference is the finish on the rifle. BDL is a gloss finish and CDL is a satin bead blasted look (And satin wood stock if yours was wood). I believe you have a Rem 700 CDL SS DM, but I could be wrong.

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/06/15 11:35 PM

Definitely a Lightseeker

Any idea what this dial is for?

I haven't dated his gun by its barrel stamp but I am pretty sure it pre-dates any CDL offering by Remington just based on what I know about that model. And on top of that the only stainless gun I have ever seen Remington label a CDL was one in a standard wood CDL stock with stainless action and barrel. Never seen them attach the CDL name to a stainless/synthetic before............but like I said I have been out of the Remington loop for awhile now.

Wonder why they make this so hard, seems a little ridiculous to have so many models that are almost the same lol

LOL! Trust me.......its a SS-DM or maybe you could call it a BDL SS-DM. I would pretty much bet my life its not a CDL-DM or a -B model unless it had the factory break.

I have a old Remington catalog with all these models in it with pics somewhere from when I ordered mine. If I can find it I will post a pic showing all the models. I haven't seen it in probably 10 years but if I run across it will post some straight from the Remmy catalog. It would show a picture of the gun and its official name along with calibers available.

Any ideas on the scope? What is that dial for on the front? Its definitely a LIGHTSEEKER though. Absolutely no model # on the thing though. Geez.

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/07/15 12:54 AM

Dial in front is adjustable objective, it is for setting parallex at the different yardages
Posted By: JCB

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/07/15 12:55 AM

Don't know much about the scope.

The dial on the front is your adjustable objective (commonly called "AO") for parallax.

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/07/15 01:22 AM

Oh ok. So instead of having a 3rd knob on the side like most scopes, this is haut on the front. Makes sense. My Weaver 3-10x40 grand slam tactical doesn't have parallax adjustment.
Posted By: JCB

Re: Which 700 model is this? - 03/07/15 01:24 AM

Correct. It use to be very common for the parallax adjustment to be on the end of the scope like that one but its more common to see them on the side of the side of the scope now.

Most mid and lower end scopes with a max magnification of around 10x or under don't have parallax adjustment.
