Chinese Type 53 $99 @ SOG - 03/02/15 05:42 PM

Just ordered one. Hopefully the $10 "hand select" won't be a waste.
Anyone have experience with SOG's hand selection?

Arfcom says the hand pick is the way to go.

I'd sell to whomever appraised it.

I probably would too.

Quick cash is always appreciated but will add it to the Remington Nagant and the model 1938.
A numbers matching Chicom nagant with a decent stock is a rare bird.

I have one I got and it is fun to shoot. 2 foot flame ball coming out the barrel. Youtube it. I would love a M 1 Garand but cant afford one so a inexpensive Mosin carbine works for me. After seeing this I almost want to buy another.

Me too. My house appraised at $96k according to Tarrant county. I dang sure can't sell it for that.

This is what I thought with the SKS. I bought ten at $79. I sold the last one a couple years ago. Never enjoyed shooting one.

Let me guess... Sold them for $79?

I bought a Yugo SKS in 2007 for $200. They're selling for around $300+ now from what I've seen. The one I got was unfired and covered in cosmoline. I love shooting it. Refinished the stock myself and it's a great plinking gun.

I don't know much about these old Mosins though. Are they pretty accurate? Yours looks awful clean. I assume it shoots 7.62x54? What are the big differences between the Chinese and other variants?

I got one of the Chinese SKS's in that condition though I haven't shoveled all the cosmoline out yet. Still have it packed in the original plastic in the original box.

From what I hear, the Type 53's are good ones. That one appears to be in great shape. up

Get the hand pick for $10 more and it is still $109 plus shipping and ffl. My stock was decent and I refinished it, but the blueing was 90% or better. Good truck gun.

7.62x54r
The Russians sent the tooling to China to make these then a lot of them saw battle in Algeria before making it to the US. Most like the Chinese version due to them not being rearsenaled in the 70's like most of the Russian Rifles.
They are hard to find in good shape and even harder for matching #'s. Bolts are smooth and the triggers are great only 2nd to the Finnish Rifles.

Nope. I sold a few for around $150. The last for twice that.

No doubt I would have done the same. I remember crates of Russian sks when I was a kid. $1000 per crate!

A guy just posted that he got his from this batch with so much rust in/on the barrel that he had to part it out.
Hand-select!
