McMillin Stock decision

Trying to decide which stock to get for a Rem sendero, A3 sporter or Thumbhole. Will be used for shooting out of a box blind. I haven't had a chance to hold each one to compare. What would be best for shooting out of a box blind?

Both of those you mentioned feel very good in hand. I played with both and a few others at the safari club show. My thumb hole was delivered 3 days ago to me. I know its an opinion but i really like this stock. Some people say that you twist a tumbhole with your hand to much, I dissgree. The lazzeroni th version was awful but the Remington thumb hole is boss. It has a high cheek weld for real scopes. I can't wait to get it together.

A5. The wide flat underside of the forearm resting on a bean bag on the window ledge is very stable.

Looking at the A5, thumbhole is tempting. What would be your color choice?

I looked hard at the A-3 Sporter, kinda best of both worlds like the Game Scout. I went with the Remington Hunter, great stock, rides bags great, great out of a blind, fits me really well, if you really like the tactical vertical grip go with the game Scout or A-3 Hunter not sure if you can tell much from pictures

Sweet rig, I like the A3 pistol grip.

Purely personal preference and the options are almost limitless.

Would suggest going with molded in colors, as paint shows wear fairly quickly.

Here is an A5 in a deer blind olive drab with grey added.

Like that color Jeffbird, looks close to my 7mmWSM, Kinda the old "Terry Cross" pattern. I love the A-5, That adj comb is GREAT

What source did you use to purchase it?

The rifle builder ordered it for me. Supposedly the wait time is dropping for special orders. Also, McMillan now keeps some in stock. Check their website. Whatever you order, go with a flush cup on the side in the front and rear plus a stud underneath the forearm for a bipod. Studs underneath snag on bags and pull shots. As Buzz notes, the adjustable cheekpiece is a nice addition.

For vertical grips look at - a3 sporter, thumb hole , game scout , a5 (usually heavy)

For a more normal grip - Remington hunter like above

Very popular but to skinny in the forearm is the McMillan hunter

Go directly to the McMillan website as they are starting to have some ready to go or on expedited colors pending what you want. The marble colors are really nice as are the molded in colors.

Vertical grip (must have for me) slimmed down forend, 24-26 oz!

Another easy option just came to mind, which is an AICS. A R700 barreled action drops right in. Tighten it down with a torque wrench and you're ready to go.

AI's are by far my favorite stock. They have a flat forend, which is helpful in a blind. Have used mine in a blind more than any other stock, and it is definitely my go to choice in that use.

Also, they really tame recoil well.

I wanted a AI chassis for the longest time until getting behind one. I absolutely hated the way it felt. I still like the looks and design. I want a XLR but I'm afraid I will have the same feeling. Another thing the Manners T5A or thumb hole allow a hold like a plain vertical grip or thumb through.

I like the thumbhole. It feels really good.

Liking the Manners MCS-EH1, I'll either choose a tan, black, or olive. What's the price on the Manners, currently at work and blocked from manners website. I looked at the manners on google images but can't access the website at work.

Look stocky stocks it may beat your filter

I've got three classics and a game scout. I like the hunters, love the game scout. Well rounded platform.

I've got a Remington Hunter and a Remington Varmint. For shooting off of sandbags or out of a box stand I like the Varmint better. I shoot left handed so I know the pic looks backwards to most!

I know this is a recommendation totally out of left field, but check out the new Magpul 700 hunter stock. Very adjustable to your preferred ergonomics, can be converted to a detachable box magazine if preferred. The basic stock is only $260.
