Forbes Rifles

Does anyone have actual experience with the Forbes Model 24B & Model 20B rifles? I am thinking about purchasing one and am having a tough time deciding. Thanks

Not the Forbes, but it's "father" is quite impressive. The NULAs are impressive machines. The only really real difference in the two are barrels. NULA uses the Douglas, while the Forbes uses the Shaw. Otherwise, parts are completely interchangeable. Oh, and the Forbes is about 1/3 of the NULA price...

I've also been thinking about buying a Forbes. I own an ULA in .284 Win, and it handles like a wand and is quite accurate despite the thin Douglas barrel. I've read that the Shaw barrel is just as accurate.

On another forum, a guy posted that his Forbes rifle stock was poorly fitted and that he was very dissatisfied. Crazy, but Melvin Forbes himself contacted the guy and personally re-finished (or replaced) the stock. Now, that's first class CS!

I have a Forbes 24B in .280 that I have had for the last couple of years. It shoots under an inch with everything I have tried, and shoots 150BT's into 1/2" groups pretty regularly. There has been a lot of bad reviews of them as of late, because of fit and finish. It is my understanding that Melvin has sold the manufacturing or is at least not overseeing the manufacturing of the Forbes line, rather concentrating on the NULA/ULA line. For the price difference I don't think you can go wrong, most of the negative comments I have seen have been somewhat nitpicky stuff. If you have the cash, go with the NULA/ULA, if you don't, you will be happy with the Forbes. My only complaint about mine is the bolt knob size. I understand it is a lightweight rifle, but if you have big hands like I do, or if you are wearing any kind of gloves, that little bolt knob is hard to get ahold of and work, and with the short throw, I find myself hitting the scope with my thumb when working the bolt. Just and FYI more than anything.

I was on the same boat, but after reading a few post on the 24hourcampfire i decided against it. I also had a nula .25-06 but i didnt want a rifle i couldnt eject live rounds, since the action/port was made so small. Kind of silly to not be able to eject live rounds as the the loaded caes would not fit the ejection port, melvin told me he does that to save on the weight, but he did refund me. I did'nt care how good it shot if i could'nt eject live rounds without fishing them out of the action with my fingers. Never even shot it.
