Colt Model 1878 Double Barrel Shotgun - 01/02/15 01:02 AM

Anyone know anything about this shotgun? My BIL has one and is trying to find out more about it. The gun appears to be a damascus barrel gun with rabbit ears. This gun has some engraving on it and the gun appears to be in good condition. It does have some wear in places with a small crack in the stock near the grip

Made between 1878 and 1889. The damascus barrels were made in Belgium, and shipped to Colt for final finishing and assembly. At the time, these were the most expensive items sold by Colt, and considered the best American production shotguns of the time. I'd love to have one to hang over the fireplace. They came in various grades, and the higher end models fetch thousands while the lower end ones around 1500$.

Anyone else have any information about this gun? Anyone know where it could be appraised, web site or phone number?
