Do you have to clean um. Don't own a gun but if I did I would wear it outside so everybody would fear me.

I usually give it a good cleaning after some time at the range. In between I'll run some Rem Oil through when necessary.

How much trash is floating around in your back pack?

Thank you for the very well thought out and helpful answer.

Most of the dirt is left overs from old snuff cans. That stuff gets everywhere. Besides that ....

I have seen people put a pice of a cotton ball in the barrel. Is that stupid or helpful?

you could put a latex product on the barrel if you're worried about contamination

I carry a rifle most days, i just wipe the exterior off on a curtain and clean the rifling when accuracy falls off

I don't really clean them unless I have shot them. If it has gone 6 months or so and I have not shot them, I may pull a snake through the barrel and a very lightly oiled patch. Otherwise I only wipe down the outside whenever I think about it.

I wipe my carry gun down with a silicon impregnated rag about once a week or when it gets schweaty. Clean the bore and innards every 2-300 rounds.

If you are going to bet your life on it then clean, lubricate and function test it frequently dirty or not.

I carry a Glock. I don't clean my Glock. My Glock doesn't need cleaning. My Glock goes bang, every time.

Seriously. My G35 competition pistol has not been cleaned in at least 4-5 years. It has thousands of rounds down it. I wear it on my hip for tactical rifle matches laying prone and getting sand, dirt and debris in it. I'll take the slide off, wipe it down, blow out any debris, put a drop or two of oil on a cloth, and wipe the oil cloth on the contact points of the slide and outside of the barrel.

I will NEVER put oil inside my barel!!! If you do this, this will cause accuracy issues, and not allow the case to seal inside to the chamber when firing.

My carry guns, I'll blow the lint off, sure, because it does build up sometimes. Take the slide off and blow the stuff out, and reassemble.

Yep the joys of a Glock. I've never cleaned my 27 carry gun and think I've cleaned my 22 once but it didn't need it, I was just in a gun cleaning mood.

Now I know why there are more Glock pistols for sale on this forum than any other.

I carry a 1911, and according to the experts on Glock talk, I need to clean it at least twice a day for it to maintain mediocre reliability.
